This is writing about sacrifice.

It tells of soldiers sacrificing their lives in the fight for freedom. The writer's character also speaks for those who have died fighting. It is a pleading that hopefully these sacrifices do not need repeating if only we can learn from past mistakes.

This brilliant poem ends with a question that involves the reader, as I did answer it for myself. To me, we'll fall victim, as Mark Twain wrote: "History doesn't repeat itself, just rhymes." Super writing! Les

I have the answers ,to your questions, but you have them, don't you?
Style is strong, but what could it be with this subject. You have put "it", out there for the reader and done it perfectly. thank you.

I like the patriotic spirit of this poem. Our people today do not realize the sacrifices that were made. We take so much for granted here. Thank you for writing this. It has a message that needs to be heard. Good work!

This is a very powerful piece and (for me) what is written between the lines speaks volumes more than the lines themselves.

Nicely penned. :o)

A very thought provoking piece. I'm sure those who have given so much must certainly wonder if we'll ever learn from our mistakes ... the answer is no ... we are destined to grasp for power until the end.
Wonderful post!

If ever there was a poem from the heart, this is it. This poem wrestles with the problem of war and peace and with the difficulty of making and then even understanding the sacrifice that people caught up in war make. Is it worth it if it drives us anywhere but towards peace? Well done, poet. Thanks for posting this.
