I liked this story from a kids perspective and I remember the holidays like that when I was a kid. I enjoyed reading this story.

Thanks so much. Big difference between Minnesota weather and Arkansas, huh, Tellis? We have about two feet of white stuff on the ground here in Michigan. Can't imagine, St. Paul. Thanks again for the fine review...

I enjoyed reading it. You have put yourself in the shoes of a small kid or u are recollecting ur old memories. Whatever, the end result is exceedingly nice. I thought that this was very well written.
Gram yells like we're a long ways away when we are right there in the living room listening to Fibber Magee and Molly. Gram always does that.
I wonder why that makes me feel more sicker.
By using the word more sicker u've expressed the boy's feeling exceedingly well and joined the illustrious authors who wrote about the most unkindest cust and more friendlier.
Good job.
Wishing you A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR.

I remember meals like this. I had a cousin, Mikey, who used to fling a spoonful of potatoes across the table when he was bored.
NIce, nostalgic.

I loved this. It sounded just like a kid! Especially calling someone a fibber and a whinner! I loved that part. I guess every family has a whiner. Another thing that I thought was so funny, I guess pumpkin pie is universal. I remember from mine and Randy's days in our navy married life. Our friends from the north would always bring things like rhubarb and mince meat pies and we ( people from the south and southwest) brought coconut cream and sweeter pies. I loved your story. Happy new year, Shirley

Bah humbug to all of those who don't love fruitcake. LOL. I think it is good. I know most don't like it, but it is GOOD.
This is a great story, with wonderful homey images, tantalizing with details of a perfect holiday afternoon.
Very very well done.

Sweet memories of a child. You write it as if it is the inside of a child's head... Christmas is a great time for children, with lots of food, so no wonder 'Butchie' gets sick. Interesting story.

My stepmother ate fruitcake and I guess I was too young to know people are not supposed to like it because I adored it! LOL I also loved playing tiddly winks and eating all those artery-clogging foods before we all thought about how artery clogging they are. This was a nostalgic joy to read from the point of view of a child several years my senior :-) Brooke
