Excellent use of the iambic pentameter,(and the rhyming was never forced, just added to the passion of the piece). The last two lines were my favorite, because it so beautifully summed up the entire poem. Well done and very well presented!

My, you know a lot about these matinee idols and always find terrific pictures to accompany your poems. In this verse you describe effectively how much they apparently had in common. (I am having a hard time with the rhymes "was/laws" and "bliss/piece".) I especially liked your metaphor "siren's poison".

Thank you, Joan. This is my favorite Hollywood couple of all times. I use slant rhymes in those two spots you pointed out.

Wow! What a beautiful woman she was. You always write the most wonderful tributes with words that flow like white clouds in the sky. Wonderful!

She was more than beautiful; she was a goddess men die over. When I look at that face, I, a woman, draw my breath. My mother looked like her in that photo. Oh, Lola, Ava Gardners of the world hold the key to men.

yelena ~ what a perfectly wonderful sonnet! I love Frank and Ava was truly the bomb compared to all other women. No beauty so true as hers could be defined as anything other than poison! I would lose some of the semi-colons in verse three...they are not needed. Perhaps, replace with commas or dashes...just a suggestion. Great work. Love, Susanne

Thank you, Susanne. She was a true solid gold goddess men die over. It is too late to ask her what her key was (smile); but I just adore her! And him. This was Hollywood's most reomantic couple; and I even contemplate creating a contest on Hollywood's greatest romances. Glad you enjoyed my paean to h eavenly Ava. I will lose the semicolons in verse 3 just for you. Love, Y.

"as love abides by no cerebral laws" What a smart line, excellent beginning to a wonderful piece Yelena. "On to the next; his heart a bleeding piece" excellent sonnet

You repeated "could" twice in line three

Thank you so much, Jude, for your review and a nice compliment. I have fixed the spot you referred to.

    Isn't she god-like, Ava Garner?

Brilliantly done, Yelena. Another writer might have wielded her pen a little less lethally than you on the last line, "poison" - it seems to accuse all beautiful women of something pretty dark.

But such skill, such elan, such a sweep of sound and sense; your sonnets are becoming lustrous and magnificent.

J.

Oh, Gil, you know the magnetic pool of these women; nothing short of "poison" would describe it. Ava Gardner's beauty is something that makes the world turn. God'a miracle.

This is a very great homage to Frank, my favorite actor and singer of all times. I read one of his biographies, Ava had exterior beauty.
