I love this for so many reasons......
First of all it is so relatable.. And it pulls at the strings of the heart.....(Out of the mouths of babes)
Like the bible says.... And this is certainly a great example... What a funny thing to say..(The cat can't read)
But, isn't that the truth.... No wondered you cried....
Don't have six stars, but (six million) from the heart.. Bryan

Hi Bryan - I would love it if you would read another post referring to the same grandaughter, The Sounds of Time. Really more about her mother. Regards, Bill

Excellent work. It's a emotional virtual view of childhood wonder unfolding - refreshing. An perfect reminder to us all that the little flaws in people and life are a mirror held up to ourselves, and when you look at it that way, who cares what a milk carton says, lol, cus' cats can't read and milk cartons don't talk...normally. Thanks for sharing!

I can so understand why this moment will stay with you forever, Bill - what an adorable story and what a revelation it was for you - I love the way you find such beautiful meaning in this and don't present it only as a kids say the darnedest things anecdote. I'm so glad you repromoted this :-) Brooke

Thanks for reading Brooke. I'm really trying to take a lot of the input for many of my stories and re-do, based on input from FS. This was one of my favorites, and never really had that much interest. It was and still is important to me. Thanks as always for your support.

PapaBill..... (may I call you that? lol) From one grandparent (i.e. that's why I'm gramalot8) I totally loved this story. What a cute, innocent little girl and what a gem she said in just a few short words. I too have a tear in my eye because of that illiterate cat. Good job.... isn't being a grandparent one of the better things in life????

Of all the roles I've had in life, grandparent is just about the best. Thanks for reading and I'm glad you enjoyed. I have 8 grandchildren as well. My wife is actually in California seeing some there - couldn't go this time.

What a heartwarming story. You've developed it nicely, too, first telling of the incident and then drawing something on a larger scale from this one incident. I love the ending, too. Just two little oversights, both of them apostrophes: granddaughter's gesture and uniquely my daughter's.

Thanks for reading bowls. I'll circle back around and put in the apostrophes. Doesn't seem to matter how often you edit your own material, some of those nits always come through.

Ha-ha, I love that logic. She is so smart! Good for you to write it down into this cute story with a message, as precious moments like these can pass without us remembering it.

Thanks Belinda - I'm a firm believer in writing things down. Most of what I write is non fiction. I sat down with my Mom last week and literally had to pull stories out of her, and they were wonderful.

Oh, this is so sweet. And so true. My youngest daughter and my now 7-year old grandaughter have some of the same mannerisms. For example, crossing her arms in front in contempt when we tell them no.

A very endearing piece of work that show the joy our little children give. I think the simple things in life are the best and what could be more simple than a child's mind, without guile, innocent and pure hearted. I liked your story about your grandchild
