Yes, this is a very cute grandchild story (cute and smart, too!) I, too have had a feeling like that which you describe overcome me--'part of me will live in my descendants' and it is a concept to really make you wonder about why it is important- why are we so hungry for that assurance, although knowing that our consciousness will have been buried with us? I enjoyed reading your story/essay.

I love this, the cat can't read! My granddaughter is only 9 months but she is a riot. I have her "brainwashed" to love music, all music. Today my husband played techno music and the beat intoxicated her to the point that her little behind was swinging back and forth! We spent the day just looking at her smiling face.

You've touched on something wonderful with the dancing. I've seen kids do this with great joy. Too bad they grow out of this. Thanks for reading and for the kind and generous rating. Regards, Bill

Loved this: "When it's past date, you shouldn't even give it to your cat." "It don't matter, Granny." My mother gently asked, "Why is that sweetheart?" "Cuz the cat can't read."

Oh, yeah!--Of course the logic, that smooth flawed logic, my granddaughter gets from me!

Got a chuckle at the ending ;p Good job!

Thanks RB - this one was special for me, so glad that you read and enjoyed. Rashid would probably think me a wimp! What the hell - I'm comfortable with my sensitive side. LOL Bill

This is such an adorable piece. It paints a picture of your mother, granddaughter, your daughter and yourself. Such a wonderful realization of how we live on in the generations that come after us.

This was a lovely story of family and the promise that life continues in those traits we pass on to our children. I enjoyed the sensitive relationship of the child to the grandfather.

Hi bhogg,

What a delightful story and wonderful little granddaughter. I love tales about the things children say...they are much more wise than grown ups. Is the picture of her? Thanks so much for the smile. chey

Hi Chey, thanks for reading and your kind comments. The picture is not my grandaughter. I had several, but none really fit. Boy, would I hate to tell her that!

What a delight this is to read. Your granddaughter said a priceless 'comeback' which is hilarious. But your ending brought me even more laughter. What good, successful writing!

Hi bhogg,

What a cute story of four generations this is! How nice that part of each of person lives on in each generation. I guess in a way even if a person doesn't have children or grandchildren, a part of us lives on in our nieces and nephews. When I look at niece's baby, I can see a small piece of myself there. That's strange isn't it? Thank you for sharing this short commentary with us.

Hi bhogg

That's reassuring, I begin to think my cat can!

Lovely story, and you are right, we do leave a part of ourselves in our offspring and their offspring...

Well done,

Patrick

Mothers are always right, except when it is spiritual things unless they are saved. You have written a good story, with a clear message! Thanks, pugrpoems.
