My heart goes out to you and your wife. This is a very heart-breaking and tender story. It has a lot of pain and suffering in the writing. The story has a lot of love also. I think it has a good message for us who have children and to those who just love children. Would recommend. God can help us survive anything. Good flow and a wonderful tribute and brave and courageous story on your part.My only son is 14. I love him to pieces and tell him and show him every day. Blessings to you. Queenise

Such a handsome boy and such a sad ending to his young life. What the Priest said about the 'top of the mountain' makes sense and I am going to remember that. I have never heard it put quite like that. I hope you and your wife have found some peace. Just keep remembering the wonderful 14 years you had.

Just a few comments to make. The first one, looking back, is almost inconsequential, the second I'm not even sure I'm right about.
You've always been a superb story-teller. I hope the telling of this one was one more way of effecting a sense of self-healing -- if that's even possible.
"when we were done I went to put it in the bag, but it was gone." [I don't know, Mastery, but it seems to me if you have your son mention the loss of the bowling bag,he would say, "I went to put my BALL in the bag, but it was gone. My God am I getting nitpicky?]
"laying under sterile white sheets." [LYING, I believe.]

Buck Owens? You mean the late singer/songwriter Buck Owens who put Bakersfield on the map with "The Streets of Bakersfield"? How did you know him?

Nah...I was gone for two years myself...Just got back six months ago. uck? When I was a DJ at WJJD in Chicago, Buck was on toour with a roadshow. (They didn't call them concerts in those days 1967) the first time I met him..Talked alone with him for about an hour in his dressing room. Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Tex Ritter and The Louvin Brothers were on the same bill in Rockford, Illinois....Bob

I do not like to assume that everything we write is truth, having said that this story really touched me. I think if I had to read more I might have cried, this coming from a man who does not cry easily. I cannot think of anything worse than losing a child. I think this is superb writing and story telling at its best.

The pain I am sure is a little different, but never leaves, your life changes, you being able to write this is a start. I still after ten years, am trying to but that story and what happened in my book, and I can not finish it. Your writing is wonderful, thank you sharing your tears and heart, I feel the angels are with him and my sister as we read this.
