Oh, you really got caught in the limmerick thing, didn't you Brooke. :) Well done. I know that docs are taking a lot of hea right now, but just remember -- there are a few left that are in it for the people. My kiddo is planning on finishing med school and heading for the indian tribes in Costa Rico. She'll never make any money, never pay off all her loans, etc. but she will be doing what she wants to do. Blessings, and looking forward to the next one, Deb

Oh, after I got turned away from the family practice I had been a paying customer of for over twenty years, I found a free clinic with volunteer doctors, and I think they are saints!!! I would never suggest all doctors are like the ones in this limerick. God bless your daughter. Brooke

I knew that; just being a pain. (So out of character for me, really ........)
And, yep, God bless her. Someone should. Eighteen is such a tough age, and she's smart and not living at home and engaged and SO doesn't need mommy and daddy anymore. :) Ah, growing up. Have a good weekend, D

This is a killer statement on our health system. Very relevant, great choice of words, good rhyming and metre. I want more, more, more satiric limericks. Hey, you've inspired me, again. mitzi

Thanks so much, Mitzi - most people seem to like the satiric limerick idea though a few have protested vehemently. Brooke

Yes, a scary thought, more than funny really. Read a similar post not long ago, and it seems people really DO get turned away from help in the States, if they can't afford it. I don't know what's worse--waiting ions for everything (our system), or your system. Thanks for the reflection, and take care,
Heather

It happened to me personally - over twenty years a paying customer of a family practice for myself and two kids, so you know we had paid them a lot over the years, and then I lost my job and they turned me away the one time I asked to be treated for free - told me they did not accept charity cases. Thanks so much, Heather. Brooke

Wow, Brooke. How disheartening, to say the least.

We must get health care reform! I saw lines of people in California lining up for care by doctors who were donating their time. This is America? The limerick says it all. ann

Yes, I saw that coverage too. Luckily my area has a permanent free clinic that I use since I have no insurance - it is not in a poor town - most of the people who use it have jobs, sometimes are self-employed, but for whatever reason jobs that don't come with insurance. They're not homeless people, just people without the extra money to pay the doctors around here over a hundred bucks for one office visit!! Thanks for your thoughtful response, Ann. Brooke

I consider myself totally fortunate for having insurance during my surgery, in fact, I even had a suplemtary insurance and my entire bill that I was responsible for was $50.00. I pity those without. Tony

Hi Brooke,

The US medical system is one of life's great mysteries to me. Especially the vehement opposition to reform.

It just makes no sense at all. What on earth do the better off expect to gain by opposing it. In my counties UK and Belgium) we pay around (I think) 5% of income as part of our taxes - I don't know the exact amount.

But as I said to another writer on here recently; it meant my Parents didn't have to hock everything to pay for mine and my Brother's birth. My Mum didn't have to hock everything when my Dad nearly died with peritinitus and was rushed to emergency. I didn't have to sell the car to pay for my Daughter and my Son's births or when my Wife spent weeks in hospital while docs fought (and won) to save her leg.

A long winded way of saying Great limerick!

All the best

Keith (I hope the US people get the health system they deserve)

It is a great mystery to me, too, Keith, but just read what some of the people on this site say - they think my gaining access to health care is somehow going to jeopardize the very fiber of our democracy!!! Thanks so much. Brooke

Yes I read them. I just puzzles me even more.

I loved every word written by the writer and the art work is excellent.

I feel sorry for him being turned away, but as the words read,
"they turned him away, his fate sealing"

Wonderful writing

Honeytree.

It's not that I wish to abuse you
But this time I just can't excuse you.
The rhythm is fine
The rhymes are divine
But, lim'ricks are meant to amuse you.

It's still worth the 5 for all that. :-)

Best regards
Reg

Ah, but Reg, since I was a kid satire has amused the hell out of me - I cannot begin to tell you how much I love the biting humor of satire. But I quite understand - sorry this one is not your cup of tea, my friend : -) Brooke

Hi Brooke, I have been away and now I have lots to catch up on! You know I love humor and we are off to a good start with this one! Funny, sad but true. I only hope that one day no one will be turned away. It seems so tragic that because of circumstances, the sick get no help!

Well written and food for thought.

Best wishes,
