This is a well expressed essay and very sincere, I like that. Us wanna be writers are sensitive by nature, we live inside our own world finding the best way to express ourselves. No one can please everyone, just continue writing, someone will smile or will be enlightened by your sincerity.

Well, Helvi2, I can echo much that you say in your struggle. I'm finally receiving much better exposure now and some splendid feedback thanks to FanStory
This helps to spur me on to continue writing.
I could make a long list of my difficulties and share with you my near-despair. It's what I call a vicious cycle: trying to break into getting a major work published---even a minor one recognized--has been an up-hill struggle against the odds.

Sure, I've had tose bits of praise for short pieces in various journals, mostly letters to editors. But many decently written letters can make that. But what I've lacked is the substantial paying market.
I think it's something like the old saying, "It takes money to make money." That's what I call the vicious cycle.
But thankfully matters are lookiing up.

I'm happy to know I amaze you! I LOVE your writing, as you know. (visa versa) hehe....

I recently picked up the book, "Chicken Soup For The Writer's Soul". have you seen it? It's wonderful. So many short stories about the pain of rejection and the glory of persistence. Check it out!

I think it would bless you.

I love your writing. ALL OF IT! Don't give up.

Don't worry my friend, I'm NOT going anywhere.
What I wrote about here is just part of my journey on FS I do have times when I get down ,but for the most pary I have met a lot of encouraging friends here. YOU are definately one of them.

I like the sound of the book you mention. I know there are a lot of Good "Chicken Soup Books "out there and I would love to read the one for writers......by the way I hope you're not having any doubts about your writing.....It's INCREDIBLE !

    Hugs and Smiles Always,

It's always a pleasure to come into Helvi' Zone, Nancy. Your sweet heart shows through all your writing. You are very correct that we are sensitive souls, some with thicker skin than others. I have found I have had to really thicken my skin when I started submitting my children's book to publishers. After you receive 60 rejections you better toughen up and figure out what you need to do to change that (which I have done) and then be persistent if you believe in what you are doing( and persistence has become my middle name). That is the lesson I have learned, but it still is disappointing when you have a message that you feel is worthwhile but no one seems to think so. Great write, Nancy, and certainly one that most on this site can relate with. No nits. Joycex

    Hi Joyce,
I guess two good things that I have going for me are: I never stop working to be better and am also STUBBORN! I know those two qualities help a lot when it comes to wanting people to except your writing. Listening is also required.
Having wonderful and talented friends like you are a blessing. I always know when someone like you comes along and offers a suggestion it is because you want to help. From my side it is definately appreciated.
I am extremely honored you like what I write because I am a fan of your writing. Thank you so much for the kind words my friend and wonderful review.

    Hugs and Smiles,
    Nancy :o)

Hi, Nancy.

I don't believe there is such a thing as a 'thick-skinned writer'. We're all putting ourselves out there in the hope of impressing with the bonus of being liked. Of course, whatever we do, we can't please everyone.

I'd say there are writers who are LESS thin skinned than others. We're all sensitive souls to a degree, however much we try to hide it.

I love your writing, and I find you a sweet and gracious person with a great sense of humour.

Try not to let the 'hurt' last too long, especially when I comment on your fancy presentations, LMAO!

Lotsa love, Ray xx

    Hi Ray,

There are people who hurt...and people who annoy!
You belong in the second group my friend.
I don't have any problem with you.If I don't like what you say I'll just start my steam roller up and flatten you. LOL.....
    ........seriously though.
..You always give helpful suggestions and I appreciate them very much. I actually print out your suggestions to improve my skills ( I crumple them up for practice shots into the circualr file)

Sorry my funny bone got loose! .... YOU really are helful Ray and I appreciate the time you take in trying to help. I make it a point to always listen, because learning is an ongoing process and I am here to learn.
    Thanks for the GREAT REVIEW

    Love You,
    Nancy

Thanks for the sweet and relieving reply, Nancy. I always try to help and not be patronising. After all, I don't have that right having never written a word til 18 months ago.

I'm SO pleased you find some things a little helpful, and just your 'listening' is a huge compliment.

Luvs ya back, your friend, Ray xx

    18 MONTHS?
    Ray, you're phenomenal!
It took me three years before I got into the top ten poem list of the day. It was the happiest day of my life on this site. Now, I actually win contests and that's something I never would have imagined

LOOK AT YOU! You are flying my friend. Thanks for being a friend to this little fledgling.

    Bless You,
    Nancy

Well you know one of them is me! This is a genuinely touching little piece of writing that explains, not only your angst but also your writer's drive. well done.

Good day to you my FS friend
Helvi.
I didn't realize you have been on Fanstroy for 5 years

Let me say this, 'When I first saw you poetry', I said,
"Now I like this lady's thoughts."
I know what you mean when you said-

A true writer can not ( by the way cannot can be one word) help them self when it comes to writing. Even when my world is turned upside down I can not resist the urge to pick up a pen.

So you just keep on posting.
Gert

Great job on this heartfelt essay. I think you expressed yourself well, and I'm truly glad that you are on this site. I know the feeling of trying very hard and not getting much recognition. A couple of edits (take them or leave them):
A true writer can not (cannot)help themself when it comes to writing.
Even when my world is turned upside down(,) I can not(cannot) resist the urge to pick up a pen.
I hope this helps.
