Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

that is so true. we tend to forget all the memories which mean something to us. we seem to remember all the ones we would wish we could forget. Enjoyed reading. Oh by the way, if you missed me, me an nattily took a vacation. an one of my rules for when I go away is no computers to fill in my time.

Wow, I have almost forgotten that I wrote this, I started reading my own poem, not knowing it was mine at the beginning, old age I guess.
Thanks a million for all those great stars, Jack.

Memories, how precious they are. Poetry will save some of them, and pictures others, but the vast majority just fade away. That's why today is so important. What is done today will never come again, sometimes, not even in a memory. Your poem is such a fine and strong reminder of that fact. Rose.

Pupa,
Don't be too hard on yourself, my friend. I too have a friend whose memory is incredible. She even remembers the year we did certain things. I barely remember 1/2 of the details. What I remember though is the feelings. I remember how I felt at certain points of my life. As we age, everyone's mind fails to a degree and details might not be as important to our here and now as how we feel. If we are content and happy, feel loved and at peace, once can live peacefully, with or without the memories of the past. I choose to concentrate on how I feel and making the most of them here and now. Tomorrow might never come, and the past is all but gone.
Some people do keep diaries and journals etc of past events. Writing your memories down may help you or it may be tedious. Maybe it's not necessary to do this if you see your friends often enough that they can remind you and tell the stories and reminisce! Maybe that's one of their unique gifts and how they will bless your life!
Maybe each especially meaningful memory they share with you could inspire a poem from your pen, a way to bless their lives!
I enjoyed your poem but felt a sense of panic at losing some memory. Relax! Just make the most of what you do remember!
Thanks for sharing this well-written and reflective poem with me. I love the colors and artwork you've chosen.

I always read notes. I might not lose too MANY memories (now on to the review)

The second line is a bit long.

The eighth stumbles a bit, long and strange. Day instead of today might help some.

The end is great. The pattern is consistent. Soap flakes is a bit strange, wish you could find a pair with it and paint. Tie it up with a bow.

Read it out loud. Just think about it.

I've always said the one thing we should never have to give up is our memories. It's hard enough to age and give up physical freedom of motion and our looks to wrinkles and grey. All of us can handle that and let vanity go, but who wants to lose memories of good times and loved ones? so sad. Don't worry. It was probably just a blip in your chemistry yesterday and you'll be fine. Or, maybe they've kept in touch more. good piece Pupa

Thanks Jude, appreciate your insight and interesting comments, unfortunately it is not a blip as it has been the case since I was very young, now deteriorating of course.

Sometimes we have so many memories, we don't seem to have space for them all. But somehow, when they are truly needed, they come back to us. Memories are the building blocks of our lives.

This is a great reminder to people to record their memories because so many memories truly do fade and then disappear.
I would like to say I remember in vivid detail so many events from my life that I simply do not and wish I had written them down at the time, and so now, yes, I work on memory poems about those things I still have in my memory before I lose them someday too. Brooke

Hi Pupa
Sometimes I can't remember what I did yesterday - haha!!
I loved your poem, it was written beautifully and I am sure there are many who can relate to it. It made me think of when I was watching a family video recently (filmed about ten years ago) and as I watched I realised how much I had forgotten, until it came alive on screen for me!
Take Care
Diane

Hi Pupa, nice to see you again.

"Like soap flakes they'll disappear."

Excellent post. I liked:
"I always hoped that when I got older

They would be the ones that last

I depended on them for later years

To fill my today as they did in the past"
Kindly, Kathy
