Hi Ann,
This is well writtena nd presented. I enjoyed reading it as I always enjoyr your writing. I only found one spot where the workding seemed to trip me up a bit. But I'll just point it out, it's not a huge deal.

The best of us are reaching toward the place where we know the person is not the container, but rather the soul and the mind temporarily housed there.

Great job! I'm heading west to help my daughter move out of her dorm. Have a happy Mother's Day and I'll look forward to reading your other pieces when I get back.

Thanks so much. The sentence you mention has gotten some accolades and some "that's a bit bumpy." I'm going to take another look at it. I appreciate your support. Have a great mother's day. ann

Wish I had a ten to offer. You've written a very compassionate and heart-warming meaning that we all can learn from and apply to our daily lives. Excellent!

I couldn't agree with you more. It is only our body that is different, both in looks and most times also physical strength. Our minds are equal and is the only part of us that lives on, if you believe in reincarnation. I do so I believe we are equal. Just as two students both obtain high scores in an examination so could be called equal, these two people have different paths that will make them act differently. I think I confused myself with that last statement. Oh well you get my meaning, I hope. I enjoyed the read and wish you well in the competition.

I do believe in reincarnation and I think we all have a voice in each incarnation as we choose what life's lessons are most needed in our search for perfection. One person's talents do not outweigh another's. In the really, really big picture, I believe all are created equally. When one gets into the everyday and the individual situation, then the waters get muddied. thanks so much for reading and commenting. I especially appreiciate the good luck wishes. This is a wide-open contest with all sorts of takes on the subject. ann

I love your distinction between experience and disparity - you're so right - the fact that some people are smarter or faster or stronger doesn't mean they are, overall, superior to others. What I can do and someone else can't is balanced by what he can do and I cannot. Your discussion is thoughtful and reasonable. Good luck in the contest. Brooke

I do admire this well thought out and perfectly constructed essay on 'Equality'
I can find no fault with the reasoning nor the conclusions drawn.
I wish that I had written it!

For a short read, this had me thinking a fair bit so I thank you for this mental exercise. Good luck in the contest.

Minds, souls and abilities do not have gender.
I respect your view.

The knowing we aspire to might be compared
I'm not great with commas but I think there may be a need for one after "to".

Then one day, while playing jacks, I separated the jacks for my "two-sies" and two sets of two equaling four crystallized in my mind. Suddenly, I knew that fact. It wasn't an abstract truth or something someone told me. It was a part of my knowing.

Minds, souls and abilities do not have gender.
This line had me thinking for quite some time. I think in terms of amount of brain power, soul and abilities we may be equal but in terms of the way men and women perceive things and therefore react, there are differences. Anyway that is not a premise this contest so I guess your statement still holds.
I like the way you've portrayed this moment of realization, of knowledge finally grasped.

It's easier in the short run, but faith, knowledge and the peace that passes understanding are worth the price paid in self-study.
This is a fantastic statement, great wisdom.

Thanks so much. This contest has inspired some really good entries and I'm pleased to be among them. In the really, really big picture, I believe men and women are created equal, but once you get down to individuals and every day reality, it's a whole new ballgame. thanks for your continued support. ann

Good essay ! You make your point without sounding condescending or arrogant !

A quote by Nietzsche come to mind :
The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself.

I think men are stronger where women are weaker, but women are stronger where the men are weaker. In the end, all the pluses and minuses tend to equal out. The species would die out without both, so both are just as important to mankind.
Good entry; lots of luck.!

most enjoyable - equal an easy word to say but what is equal really - men and women are equal, until you ask that to a man and then to a woman - there are differences to ther word equal - bc1yax

You are correct, of course. I think equality only exists in the really big picture; when one gets down to individuals and specifics, it whole new story. thanks for reading and commenting. ann
