Thank you, but I don't need flowers winking at me and distracting me. I need to get the landscape planted, this would be an awful dilemma; not to mention it would ruin my reputation as an advanced gardener type. Cheers and great job really. DON!

I love the Brown-eyed Susans too -- although we called them Black-eyed Susans in my 'growing-up' town. Anyway they always remind me of waiting for the school bus on an early Spring day. They grew along our driveway. Great job and pleasant read. ann

They're called both - but we can all get along and overlook our little regional differences! LOL I'm so glad they triggered a bit of nostalgia for you. :-) Thank you, Brooke

Not THAT'S what I call poetry!!!!
That was beautiful, whimsical and totally enchanting! Its rhyme & Meter were spotless, and the story was wonderfully entertaining!
Even the title was perfect.
Thank you so much for sharing!
Sincerely,
Womanwriter

The Brown Eyed Susan. Such an unassuming flower to have such a grand poem written about it. Brooke, this is foresight -- to look at this lowly plant and make it this epitome of beauty by its sheer wantonness. "Lemon yellow sea" and "Blossom winked at me" are lovely lines to read. Beautiful poem. Lyla

Absolutely beautiful, Brooke. Awesome imagery. Wonderfully done in personification. Tight meter and consistent rhyme. No flaws just as I have come to expect. I'm envious. Rhymeman, the cowboy poet.

Oh, how delightful! Seems we're both into personification of our plant kingdom, and right we are to do so! I loved the alliteration in the first line of the second stanza. Very charming and who can read this without finding a big smile on their face? Just a joy! Barb

Barb, thank you!! I've always thought of flowers and trees having personalities and spirit. I have quite a few poems along this line. Brooke :-)

The wild, bewitching flower - why not have a love affair with a flower. As you know, quatrain format and abcb rhyming scheme are high among my favorites. Well done.
