Hi Brooke,

Beyond the well penned verse, this poem is also fascinating information. The legend is much like that of the passion flower, both of which I have growing in my yard.

Thank you for shaping this legend into such a wonderful poem.

You did and excellent job of rendering the legend of the dogwood tree in verse. Rhyming and meter have a nice flow. A beautiful poem for Easter. Darlene

You did a beautiful job of creating a visual image of the dogwood tree and captured its beauty with words. i did not know it had symbolism that pertained to Christ. Terror

As always, your poetry "blows me away." In other words, your use of the English language is triumphant, engaging and truly wondrous. You manage to tell the story so gently and lovingly. It is as though it were words written by The Man himself. You well deserve that sixth star. Thank you for the wonderful read.

This is absolutely stunning, Brooke. I have never heard that particular story before, though I had heard that at one time the dogwood was a large tree composed of strong wood desired for building. This story is so appropriate for this time of year. I knew there was a special reason the dogwood was always my favorite tree. The blossoms seem to float atop the dainty limbs. Thank you for this enlightening write. Blessings to you, Linda

Once again you have taken a simple item, created something wonderful and deeply meaningful to tell a poetic story.
Very well done. Great artwork, and nice author notes.

Wow! Is this powerful. The tree, of course, had no last say
on choices mankind made,
and suffered greatly for the part
in Jesus' death it played.

It wept as nails were hammered in

Awesome writing!

This poem could become famous.

Very reflective from the standpoint of how the tree felt and questioning if Christ could sense the pain the tree was going through, witnessing and feeling the crusifiction.

Suggesting that the tree changed it's make-up from a tall tree to a lesser height, with "gnarled" branches that could no longer make a cross, is very supportive of your suggestion that the tree's grief caused the change.

Very interesting poem. - Thesis
