Thank you for sharing your uncle's touching story. What a survivor he was! Both the poem and the back story were interesting reads. Thank you for sharing this with us, and good luck in the contest.

This could really apply to all our veterans. Most of whom performed duties and actions we would never have to. Especially those held captive. Beautifully written on a tragedy. We all need to remember. joan marie

An incredibly poignant poem, made so interesting by it's reality and your personal link. On reading this I found myself wishing it was presented as a short story, as it has so much info that could be expanded upon. Fascinating. MM

What a beautiful piece. It's one of the best that I have read. It is certainly well written and will capture the readers heart. The picture at the end says it all.

Wow what a powerful piece of expertly written poetry Mrs KT. Your story certainly fascinated me although the ending is very sad. What a lovely unexpected gift for those left behind to grieve

How can I rate this when I'm crying so mmuch? This is so heart wrenching. It's a poem that tells the truth, shakes the inner being of the reader, and melts his heart. It's beyond a critique. It's perfect. It tells a sad but magnificent story. I'll never forget it. I still can't stop crying...

Wow, this is profoundly sad. We owe such a huge debt of gratitude to the men and women that serve our country. You capture well at least one of them here who has made a huge sacrifice. Bravo

Thank you for writing this wonderful tribute to your uncle, which also honors other brave young men, as well. I especially enjoyed three key lines: "figure...would bear testament to his existence," "damaged hands ceased trembling enough to bring life to it" and "carved to keep hope alive". I also found the shape of your poem very appealing.
How marvelous that you have the "robin".
