This poem is more than wonderful. It is definitely well written and flows smoothly.

With all that said, if a 11 year old read this I think they would cry. "Why are they gone?" As general poetry, a beautiful piece. As a children's poem (as indicated in the contest), I feel it is too much. As poem about the poetry that made us who we are - it is awesome.

Beauty is no quality in things themselves: it exists merely in the mind which contemplates them. -- David Hume (1757)

    Hello K-Patrick!
Oh I know!!!! I wrote it after discussing with one of my classes if their parents had read to them as children and how so many young kids today do not even have knowledge of Mother Goose! I really dated myself!!! :>)D Thank you for your kind review! Stop by again!

Fairy tales have influenced our lives and our cultures. It has allowed children to use their imaginations. Our world would be duller without fairy tales.

Hello Mrs. KT,
I certainly enjoyed your well written poem. What a clever idea to work your poem around nursery rhymes and children's poetry... all of which children would be familiar with. Your beautiful 'supposing' would definitely give wee minds a workout. I know it did mine. Fun and fantastic!
All the best,
Whizpurr ^-^

This was lovely, and as a fellow teacher, I enjoyed all your specific words about our childhood nursery rhymes. Although I suppose we would have had others instead. Terror

I never knew nursery rhymes til I was 17 and working at a daycare. I learned them with the three year olds when I was in their room. I went never went to a daycare or anything so my babysitter watched her soaps and I colored. THis is a great write from you.

This is a delightful poem fit for the parent reading it as well as the child being read to. The voice inflections for enthusiastic reading are built into the verse. A real pleasure to read.
