Hi L&P,
As our freedom continues to erode...great opening line. Unfortunately many seem to forget that no matter how good a president's intentions are he does not have total power. And more of our freedom is stripped away each day! The greed for money from our government and huge corporations rule our world and they will do anything to get their way. Besides, our Bible tells the story and it is all, but fulfilled. You have presented us with another thought provoking poem. Well written and clear in content. Thank you for sharing. God bless and best wishes!

amen again. It is what people should remember about ex-president Bush. He did not create this mess single handed. God Bless you sister in your wisdom. Barbara.

I hope you are wrong--I think the "egoism" you sense is more "drive" and an ambition that is probably a necessary requirement for anyone to run for such an office. I agree that our freedom, success in rejecting slavery, and striving for peace have all been eroded. However, I think we have a leader who will respond to our call--after all, it is up to us to help him achieve change.

I enjoyed your minimalism and potent language and above the fact that you made me reflect on our situation. Thank you.

I firmly believe we are heading straight to a two class system. Those who have and those who have not. And it will just get worse from there. Good read. joan marie

I had it, got sick, lost it, and now live on social security. But I have things no one can take away; my mind and my dignity. jm

I almost fainted when I saw the raise we got this year. Thank goodness I live in a house that has no mortgage. I am blessed in many other ways with my medicare and medicaid. I have doctors that don't charge me a copay when they could. So I am thankful now when I used to be angry about something I couldn't change. jm

|You speak of a world in turmoil, but it has always been so. We live between the tragedies. Still, you describe your doubts about the fate of the world and humanity. You make me want to reach out to assure you that hope is not misplaced. Life is still worthy of joy and hope.

While I do not in the very least share your gut instinct or think this is an egoist behind the mask, I must say that, as a poet, you express your uneasiness well - and I'm judging your poetry, not your politics - this is well written

Sorry to say, but I agree. I just hope we are proven wrong in due time. This country can only take so much insanity. Enlightening read.

I remember a young smooth talking senator called Bill Clinton waxing lyrical after his win in New Hampshire during the primaries. I didn't trust him as far as I could throw him. Eight years later I sadly lamented his departure for the Texan village idiot. Sure Mr Clinton could smooth talk his way back into his marriage, but he certainly gave the world a reason to love America too. Overall I thought he did a pretty good job and had a lot more substance than people cared to give him. I think they were just jealous, because how could someone be that charismatic and smart. He just couldn't keep his dick in his pants. And they wanted to impeach him for that?

Obama reminds me a lot of him and they both share the same views even though Bill wanted his wife to take the office. This is a great historic time for America. I just watched an episode of Roots. My God how far America has come. Things won't change overnight of course. In fact they will probably get worse before the wind change will be felt. I do believe Obama is the man for the job. He earned his stripes in Chicago, a tough hinterland to cut your political teeth on. I feel he will be ruthless when warranted, but equally empowering in his intent for the best of your country and the world. I do understand your misgivings, particularly after the last eight years of avarice, war and stripped liberties. I am not writing this to try and convince you one way or the other. I'm just sharing my opinion to someone I love and respect. By the way I really thought the poem was well written and does give one good food for thought.

God bless you Ma and your country.

Nick.

Excellent! It was a little bit of a wait for this but it was worth it. It is well thought out and very timely considering inauguration day is looming

One of the things I love about this country, is that we all have the right to speak our minds and believe as we will.

I don't believe as you do, but that's alright, I have great faith in Obama, and I am not as skeptical as you appear to be.

I was however, very skeptical of Bush, and that skepticism proved to be correct, I think he was the worst president that I have seen in my years of voting.

Others feel differently and that's their right. I find your piece discouraging, but at my age, I have lived long enough to know there are reasons for all things said and not said.

I am pleased and feel that we are on a path that will make life a bit, safer, healthier, happier, better educated and more inclined to be optimistic. Sorry you don't feel that way. You have said much between the lines I read. I give 5 stars because I see no spag.

Your piece is filled with animosity and it is well noted. Smooth talker, no just an well spoken, honest, educated individual.

I enjoyed reading this poem. You have clearly conveyed your doubts and their foundation. "folley" should be 'folly', but other than that, no SPAG. I particularly like the way you have juxtaposed "long past/soon gone". I hope your gut feeling is unfounded. :)
