Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level

How do you read someone's heart? The pastor meant well, but he couldn't have known how important it was that the mother share her gifts with him. Maybe he thought it was an act of desperation? embarassment? impetuousity? Yet, we read how happy and blessed the mother felt at being able to share.

It's one of those paradoxes...both thought they were doing the right thing.

well written
thanks for sharing

Hi Jani,
Yeah, it may not be perfect in the writer's sense of the word, but it sure is delivered with heart and lots of it.
Wonderful. Thanks for sharing.
Always,
David

You have made a good point, and you've done it beautifully. I appreciate what you said in your author notes, too.

I have been the recipient of gifts I could not reciprocate, and when I complained, I was gently told that sometime I would have the opportunity to bless someone else. That message has stayed with me, helping me to allow others the blessing of giving as well as receiving.

Thank you for sharing this and blessings to you.

What an excellent illustration of a golden truth, Jani. It's a bittersweet reminder of the pitfalls of trying to "play God" and of the genuine faith it takes to "let God BE God." Thanks for writing. Gerry

How terribly sad, Jan, for all concerned. The Pastor lost the opportunity to be blessed by her generocity and she lost the blessing of having felt she did something nice. One might ask who lost most. I really don't know.

Excellent and if I had a six, so would you.

Hugs,
Gayle

Such words of wisdom, Jani - you
are so right. I was in the same
position you speak of when my
3 boys were just little lads, and
something similar happened, altho
it was done in the most caring way.
I know exactly what you felt, but
the thought was there and I am sure
it was recognised by Him above.

I really enjoy your writing, and don't
intend to miss any.

Thank you for sharing - and God Bless.

Margaret.

Jan, this is such a beautiful message and reminder to readers of receiving all gifts graciously, thankfully and without judgement. For many of us, it is so easy to give, but so difficult to receive. I think they are equally important. I'm sure most of us are guilty of your wonderful pastors error that night.

I appreciate your poignant thoughts.
blessings,
ellen

Perfect timing for this story, Jan. Despite extremely difficult economic times for my family (see Bernie Madoff), this inspired me to still be giving for Christmas this year. It certainly is much more rewarding. Thank you.

I am sorry to hear that. We nearly went under financially this year also, due to the record high livestock feed and fuel prices, and I think we're still taking on water. :-)
So I can sympathise. Wonderful to hear this inspired you.

I understand exactly the point you are trying to make, and I'm sorry that this happened to you, my dear friend. Of course I know, as you do, that men of the cloth are only human just as we are and make mistakes like we do. He surely made one that day. I like the message you give us with this write, Jan, it is one that we need to be reminded of sometimes. Thanks for sharing this with us.

Love,

Jenny *smile*
