I have heard of this book and have read it too, actually long before it showed up on my recommended reading list in school. Great book report, makes me want to run out and read it, again. Maybe I will.

Hmm, well, I don't know if I'd want to run out and buy it - but I might just see if my library has it!

Excellent entry for the contest, Brooke. You've filled the requirements, and done it in a neat "show" rather than "tell" fashion, letting the descriptions of the characters illustrate why we would like or dislike them.

Didn't see any nits or find any suggestions to make; good luck in the contest!

Love,
Louise

Thank you, Louise. It really is the world's best book, so hit that library soon!!

World's best book? Now THERE'S a challenging statement! LOL!

OK, so I have not read every other book, but of all the books I've read, and I'm a reader, it is. I love lots of books, but I've never finished one and said, yeah, it's better than As I Lay Dying. :-) Now, of course, all things are subjective, and this one probably pushes all the right buttons for me, especially since dark humor is just my favorite, but I'd be willing to put it up against all contenders. LOL

It's like that, isn't it - there's no way we can compare everything (which would be like apples and pears anyway) but sometimes there'll be a book that makes us think "If I could only read one book again, it'd be that one ... "

Though I'd want to cheat and have one fiction and one non-fiction, at least!

Hi adewpearl,
I must say, you have sold me. Sounds like a great book. You describe these characters and set the scene very well. It held my interest throughout, has a good flow and is very well written. Good luck in the contest and thank you for sharing your take on this book and God bless and best wishes!

Nobel-prize winning Faulkner was a brilliant writer. One of the most influential writers of the modern era. It's great that you honor him so.

Most enjoyable read.

FAulkner was a genius and the book is spectacular. It was my introduction to the genre that is generally called Southern and I have enjoyed many other authors in the same vein since. I agree with your analysis completely.

Thank you so much - I'm glad to find a fellow fan - many on this site have apparently not read him, which boggles my mind!

Thank you for referring 'As I Lay Dying': I have never read it. It sounds as if it is jam-packed full of interesting people who have made an impact on your choice of favourite reads. A lot of books in Australia are for Australians. Americans probably have never heard of our classics either. Thank you.

I love many Australian films but must admit I don't know Australian literature! Please try this one out, and if there's a cool Australian book you think I can borrow from a library and not have to buy since I'm dead broke, I will read something you like in return :-) Thanks for the review :-)

    Hello from Down Under!
A couple of Australian classics (old) are The Timeless Land by Eleanor Dark. It tells the history of the early settler days and even has a glossary of Aboriginal words; From Strength to Strength by Sara Henderson is an autobiography of a very strong woman running a very large cattle property and battling cancer. These books may be availible from second-hand book stores. I often buy books from Amazon.com. And that was when your dollar was right up, unfortuately for me it has dropped dramatically! My very best wishes friend. Kay XX

members and their neighbors take turns narrating the story, we learn more and more layers of their histories, betrayals, broken dreams and fragile aspirations.

line space needed here. plus a lot less words.

And to think Faulkner wrote this masterpiece on a table improvised from a wheelbarrow during his night shifts as a power plant worker.

suggests that if one were to think, then perhaps they'd do it with english grammar in mind. It's not a proper sentence. Sorry!

If one were to think, then they would possibly realise that to complete this sentence they would have to end it as well.

yes, I realize that was a fragment - I would hope you could make that point in a bit less sarcastic way. I point grammar problems out to other writers on this site all the time and have not once felt it necessary to sound condescending or personally insulting. Thank you for taking the time to review.
