This is a lovely piece. I'm sorry I missed it the first time around, but glad I found it now. I love geraniums, too. A friend of mine did a watercolor of the red ones and it's the first thing that came to mind as I read this. Very nice work. A special tribute to your mother. I'm sure she'd love it.

Sweetheart, I am sorry for your loss and the suffering preceding it. My dad passed away from the same problem in April of 2007, so of course I can fully relate to this well written poem.
This stanza is the pivotal point of the work that makes it truly poignant:
Well, hello there. So good of you to visit.
Will you be staying long? I must have dozed off. Tea?
Why, yes, I'd love some. I've been planting geraniums
all day long. Aren't they lovely? Red geraniums.
Pots and pots of red geraniums. For my husband.
You know, my husband loves red geraniums
in crocks with trailing ivy. . .

Sweetheart, I am sorry for your loss and the suffering preceding it. My dad passed away from the same problem in April of 2007, so of course I can fully relate to this well written poem.

Mrs KT, the hardest part of aging for me was watching my parents age, become disabled, and then die. My father was alert to the very end but my mom began to resemble your poem the last couple of months. This is an extremely poignant piece for everyone who has known and loved anyone suffering from dementia, Parkinsons, Alzheimers or similar disease. I am so sorry for your loss. What a sweet and lovely tribute to your mother and your endless patience and love for her. I liked the easy gentleness of the rhythmn of the poem, almost felt like a casual wandering walk down to join her on that wooden bench.

I was attempting to show the duality of emotions between the two individuals - and hopefully, the progression of the daughter from her being slightly annoyed because she wanted to visit, to just cherishing the moments left to her and her mother......Thank you for your kind review.
