How sad! Why would anyone destroy a little bird's nest when they haven't hurt anyone at all? I wasn't sure what a Wagtail was until I read the notes and found out it was a tiny bird from Australia. Cindered Memories is a very good title for a brief story and you use it well within the tale. Good luck with winning the contest.

Poor Willy! It's fortunate he can rebuild without a lot of planning permissions. Not so sure about his home having a roof... but then, I'm willing to stand corrected.

This story, Cindered Memories, has the required word count and allows the Willy and his family survived the Australian wildfires and will rebuild a better Wagtail home.

Who would do such a thing burning down Willie's house? At first, I guessed it was going to turn out that he had left an electrical appliance on. I guess I was wrong in that. Good luck in the contest.

This is an excellent flash story for the contest
with a nice twist at the end, more than one family may
have lost its home in the fire.
Nicely done.
Good luck in the contest.

If Willy is a bird, I think he will recover from the destruction of a burnt out home much faster than the Wagtail family. Good luck with the contest. Smiles

Thanks for your review. The Willy Wagtail is a little bird native to Australia. I have added this to my Author notes after reading your review.
