The conductor sounds like such an interesting person to listen to and watch. I think the last conductors in USA must have been at the beginning of the nineteen hundreds. I've enjoyed this blast from the past in England.

    Carol,
Bus conductors were great. They provided not only assistance but plenty of entertainment with their conversations and antics. Take care and have a wonderful day.

Those times have definitely changed for the worse as riders now attack them for interrupting their daily routine of being disgruntled and quiet. It's gotten so bad you can't say Hello or Good Day to strangers anymore. Thanks for sharing your journey on old bus riding days

Hi Barry, your poem brought a smile on my face. You really caught the spirit of catching a bus and having to listen to the conductor's flippant and often funny remarks. Ulla:)))

Having lived in London in the sixties and seventies, I thorough enjoyed your poem. The conductors were cheerful and helpful. At least that's how I remember them

Those were the days when you could jump on or off the open platform of the bus while it was waiting in traffic or at the lights.

Lovely nostalgic write

Thanks for sharing

Blessings, Julia

I really enjoyed this. I love the local flare and accents. I felt as if I was right on that bus. The conductor's cheeky responses were delightful. Especially the comment about the bus is not an ambulance. Great poem. Gretchen

    Gretchen,
Thanks for your kind review. Bus conductors always provided entertainment with their antics and conversations. Sad to lose them. Some still survive on trams but they too are slowly leaving.
Take care and have a great day.

I can hear the voice, even the accent, through your poem - and yes, they had a role to play, and a significant one. With so much automation now a lot of personnel roles are disappearing, and it is a pity. Well written.

Thanks Wendy for the great review. As you say, it is a pity that they are pretty well all gone now. Ran into some tram conductors over in Christchurch recently. Great to see.
Take care and have a great day.

i love this moving tribute to the unsung hero of public transit the drivers, bus drivers and bus condctors. Here in korea there are no more bus conductors, many years ago every bus had a bus lady, a cute little thing that helped passengers get on and off the bus. Now some of the buses are driverless. I miss the bus ladies!

Thanks Jake for the review. Yes I think the bus conductor, male or female added another dimension to the journey. A pity they have been phased out. Recently I was in Christchurch, NZ and encountered conductors on their trams. A nice touch.

What an entertaining read! You are quite right ~ we don't see them anymore and yet I recall, as a child, the amazing way the bus or train conductor kept order and did so with a smile...

Nice rhymes and pace from start to finish!

I enjoyed reading your poem. The British language is a little different than American. I would like to ride the double-decker bus. We don't have conductors on regular busses but we do have them in trains.

I like the presentation too.

One doesn't seem them anymore, at least where I live, if you're lost you have to rely on the driver to be able to get off where one wants. Beautifully written my friend, well done Barry, great rhyming, great flow, and company, blessings Roy

Thanks Roy. Glad you enjoyed the read. There is a tourist bus that goes around Sydney that is a double decker. I always liked a ride on the top deck. Take care and have a wonderful day.
