Firstly, allow me to quote my scholastic qualifications. I regularly failed both spelling and English examinations. But I excelled in bad behaviour, badder spelling and truancy. My mother was a fabulous cook of unusual dishes including octopus and platypus. She'd catch them, skin them and cook them by mincing their flesh and then stuffing the minced flesh into a pastry dish then serving them as a variety of meat pie, octopie and platypie. So that's they're so called.
I always preferred writing fiction.

I enjoyed your poem. I've heard other countries think the English language is confusing. That's a good question you asked at the end. Love the octopus. Great job

What a funny poem about the English language. It has so many exceptions that makes the language harder but more interesting. I think it should be a period after "lie" and "w" should be capital in "Would". Otherwise it's a little confusing for me to read.
Well done.

I have never learnt a second language but I have heard others say how confusing English is, and you've given a good example in your poem, Patricia. I love the unique little platypi.
Nice one,
cheers,

I am always grateful when I get such a nice review this from you.

You are right - English is a very confusing language with its lack of consistency between spelling and pronunciation. Interestingly, both ocopi and platypi are actually correct, although less common in usage. Thanks for sharing.

English is such a confusing language. So many contradictions to learn. Why is it "through" and why is it "cough"? You could make a whole sonnet about this! Thanks for this amusing post!

I am sure you know the answer to this already but I can't resist; yes and no. I really love the fact that we have quite obscure plurals but they are going out of fashion and will not be with us for much longer. I love this fun and playful poem.

Thank you so much for your very kind review. I appreciate it and yes, I was not sure about what the plural of those words was until I looked it up.

I love the humor as well as the grammar lesson. I like the way it rhymes. It rolls off the tongue easily when read aloud. The picture is absolutely perfect with it. Thanks so much for sharing.

LOL Patricia, this was so cute! and you're right. It does stand to reason that those would be the plurals of the two animal mentioned. The artwork is adorable as well. Nicely done and very creative.
