Thank you for sharing this contest entry with us. I enjoyed reading, but what left with a sense of wanting more. Your descriptions were very good. Good luck with the contest.

This makes me think of the series I'm reading where are people are crawling through the sand to get as far down in history as they can. What happens in this story is their house gets covered with sand because someone is blasting someplace almost in another country or something, It covers their house. So this civilization then builds another house on top of the sand and they can go down into their basement and be in the house that they lived in before it got covered. It's just kind of a fascinating story and it made me think of some of the stuff you're saying here.

The author is Hugh Howey if you want to check it out he does two other series that I'm not interested in. Two are about Wool or silos i am only interested in the Sand one.

Ah, another piece of prose that leaves more questions than answers. I shall eagerly be awaiting part two. Ha!

Thank you for sharing. Good look in the 100 Word Flash competition. I think you did an excellent job here.

That's what they say about curiosity. Bill, excellent story for the hundred work challenge. You managed to fit in a twist and interesting plot within 100 words. Well done!

Best wishes

Alex

That's just creepy. I read it three times and my head is crammed with question marks. Never mind. Any story that persuades me to read it three times has...something. A creepy something.

Well! did Abotabo finally surface as Basil took his place, and is this the way the world is going, I think the oasis is important here, though I cannot figure it out as yet, very interesting and intriguing, best wishes for your contest****kahpot

The endlessly crawling sounds like many human lives. Burrowing too, perhaps hiding from reality. I think this is deliberately ambiguous, so one can interpret it a number of ways. Best wishes for the contest.

Thank you, Wendy. You are right, of course. Readers bring meaning to the story.

It sounds like the way some people view their like. Just constantly moving with out going anywhere that which amounts to anything of significant. Sort or like being in a rut. It probably feels like the good life to a sand crab.

I read this a few times and I couldn't quite figure out what kind of creatures Abotabo and Basil are. Perhaps this is an existential story where both creatures, crab, snake, or human are seeking the meaning of life while crawling under the sand and just missing each other.
Best wishes in the contest!
