Sounds like a walking on ice relationship. Can feel your carefulness in such a relationship. Not sure I like the colors, but just my opinion. I can see how the hues fit your words but to my taste. I guess I am more of a traditionist.

I don't disagree, and I always appreciate it when reviewers are honest with me. It's a sign of respect, so thank you. I made them to match the chameleon; that was my train of thought. I'm afraid it was more like an empty boxcar.

I finally stood up to the old bat a couple years into Bobby's and my marriage. For "Hanukkah," - except she bestowed it on Christmas Day and Hanukkah had been over for a week already - [she has a problem with my being Jewish, you see...] she gave me a novel that was. I learned by reading the front inside flap, a modern-day story of the Christ child's birth; I kid you not. I said to Bobby, "I think your mother gave me Jeannie's Christmas gift by mistake." Jeannie is our sister-in-law who, at the time, was teaching in a Catholic school. When Bobby asked his mother about it, her comment was, "What's her PROBLEM? It's only a BOOK!!"

So, three weeks later, when it was her birthday, I have her "only a book," too. It was entitled "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Judaism." To my credit, I did also give her a small (four pieces) box of Godiva chocolates. After that, she was sneakier about her contempt for me - backstabbed me to every relative who would listen. But I considered that a victory.

Wow! What a witch. Not to be to Christian, but you do have a cross to bare. I believe in the Church of the mind. Don't need walls to talk to God. Nor do I need an intermediary to understand what it is to be a good person. My best wishes as you navigate a difficult situation.

Well, she's 96 now and in Hospice, so one would think it would be too much longer...except - this is the honest-to-gawd truth, Harry, she's been in hospice since last summer!! I've always asserted that she's going to outlive us all. She's THAT level of vindictive.

You are likely correct. What is it that they say? Oh yeah, "Only the good die young."

Fantastic entry for this competition. As the creator I know it was not the clearest of briefs but this was my first and I was working it out as I went along. Good luck.

I thought it was clear - and clever, as well. Definitely an improvement over the "write a 5-7-5 about your pet" that is the usual contest fodder.

Yes I have sent the same sort of message to everyone, thanks for saying. Four or five people got it wrong so I was chasing them up and I think everyone is following the rules now.

I heard, because when I originally told you and you said you were entrusting it all to The Committee (as you're on here longer, you'll understand that "The 'Committee" is just a euphemism for "The Abyss."), I just reviewed those entries and explained that it didn't seem as if they were in compliance with the guidelines you'd set. Later, when they wrote their responses, they mentioned that you'd sent them word, as well.

Oh, thank you for your help. I asked for the difference between a haiku and a senryu to be explained yesterday. I am still waiting for the response. Why set a competition and not explain the parameters?

My first mother-in-law was hell on earth until I divorced her son. Then we became best friends. My second, and also my fourth mother in law is wonderful. And I am still close with her and my sister s. My third mother in law was wonderful too. I was very lucky. Karen

I have NEVER been lucky with MIL's. What a gyp. I'm glad that you have, at least. You've had enough other shit in so many different areas, it's nice to read that you got a break here!! xo

Some Mom's can't let go of their kids. They still want to call the shots. I appreciate your kind words. Karen

Hah! Mystery Writer,
This is definitely one heck of a creative "two meaning 5/7/5" poetic offering.
I must say that its message resonates with me completely, although I wish my relationship with my mother-in-law had been different!

Smiles all around!
Best Wishes!

Same! Thankfully, my husband is so sweet (obviously, takes after his FATHER...) that he makes up for it.

    I appreciate your lovely review.

Oh so clever and hilarious! Love your presentation here of camouflage and the multi -coloured moods and deceptions of a rather domineering relative of yours! I think the expression on that reptilian face says it all! A winner in this contest if there's any justice! Good luck! Debbie

A good entry for the Two Meaning 5-7-5 poetry contest. Perfect analogy but let's hope your mother-in-law doesn't find out you are comparing her to a reptile. :-) Nicely done. Good luck in the contest.

It may actually be better than other things to which she's been compared throughout my marriage to her son. (Thankfully, he's NOTHING like her!!!)

Thank you for the lovely review.
