I like the tribute. My father was in WWII and ended up doing psychiatry in London sorting soldiers to send home. Started in tropical medicine, got malaria, shipped home from Panama. Retrained in orthopedics in new Orleans and then taken to Maryland for residency in psychiatry. Came home to America on Queen Mary.
Sorry, your story got lost in my musing. A way of saying you inspired a new story on my end....Esther

Nice job with the dialogue only, Barry. Also a very nice tribute to your grandfather. My grandfather was also in World War I. He was in the artillery.

    Paul,
Thanks for the review. Yes, World War 1 was as wars go, totally horrific. How my grandad survived is a bit of a miracle really. One of his favorite comments was "Could not even catch a cold "when referring to questions about his experience.
    You have a great day.
    Cheers

I had never heard of a front line runner till I read your story. The corporal here was very lucky to have survived a year of doing this. I hope you extend this story into a later post as I want to know HOW and WHERE he discovered this safer route. I foresee disaster however somewhere down the line. Rod

    Rod,
Thanks for the review. Glad you enjoyed it and perhaps I will do an extension as suggested by you. Actually, there is quite a bit of scope for a larger tribute.
    Take care.

To run between trenches, or whoever he ran to deliver orders or messages, God must must have given him the blessing of Greek messenger Mercury, well done Barry, good luck, blessings Roy

    Roy,
Thanks for the review. Yes, he certainly was blessed. He was a very quiet man overall, and always supportive. God certainly was with him all the way.
    Have a great day.
    Cheers
