LOL. What a story. Very humorous, although I can imagine your sense of awkwardness and embarrasment. Perhaps your sister should have put a supply in your bedroom as well, and perhaps the bathroom too. Poor old Dad. Great story. Best wishes for the contest.

I did not get advanced information, and my sister was one year ahead of me in age. We started about the same time. In 1966, feminine pads were bulky, hard to fit, and had to be attached to an elastic belt you wore around your waist. Kids today have it so easy.

Oh, wow. I cannot imagine how difficult that would be for a young girl - AND how difficult it was to NOT explode on the poor guy - with all those hormones surging through your body.

Bless his heart! He was doing the best he could with an awkward situation. It can't have been easy raising girls by himself. I had all boys, and encountered some delicate situations with them, too.

First of all, I loved this line:

Second, I love how you're heaping all these thoughts of love and adoration and so many kudos about your dad and his experience in this area and revel in the knowledge that you can trust him to understand...and then this sweet, guy goes all y-chromosome and passes you a legal pad under the door.
You've put such an expert touch on the telling of it. Simply priceless. I'm sure I'm not the only reader whose heart went out to your dad because, really, he'd probably only recently acclimated to thinking in terms of your sister as that level of "adult," and now he was going to have to add his thirteen-year-old BABY to it, as well? Nooo. She was in that bathroom thinking of things to WRITE on a pad. Anything else was simply incomprehensible.
Your finishing touch "...pencil." was like the perfect amount of sprinkles on an already enticing sundae. Writing gold in every way. I hope you trounce the second-place winner with this. xoxo
