Good morning,
I completely agree with you Beth.
Years ago I was having lunch with my realtors ( weekend ~sidewalk) lunch.
Her three year old daughter was there also.
The wife was so excited to tell me that their daughter had taken Jesus Christ as her saviour.
This really bothered me.... how could a child that was nearly three make a decision like this.
We all need to decide on our own.
I felt your poem was so well written Beth,
Lisa

Thank you Lisa. Yes three is too young. She is definitely talking her parent faith. It is good they are teaching her about God, but she may not feel the need later when she starts to have her own thought about how God intereats in her life. I appreciate the review.

Very true we started out with our parents defining our faith and as we grew it became up to us and what we believe in. My eldest grandson has his own and closely relates more to science rather than organizational religions. Thank you for your thought provoking poetic gift. Good Luck to you in the Faith contest

Thank you so much for reviewing this poem on faith. I'm late getting around to reading the reviews. I really appreciate the review and comments. As parents we think our faith should work, but we have to allow them to choose what seems right to them.

So beautifully written. This is what I am taking with me:"The gift of faith is powerful;
God's mercies will unroll.
If our belief is strong enough,
then faith will make us whole.
" Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings and the contest,

Appreciate how the rhymes felt like a natural fit on the subject of faith. Nice how you conclude that each one must own a stake of faith for themselves, for it to have true meaning and impact in our lives. It may start with a seed planted by someone who we learn and glean from. Well said! Memorable.

It is normal to start out with our family's standards and beliefs. As we accumulate wisdom and other viewpoints, we slowly change- well, most of us.
My faith was learned from both of my Grandfathers.
They never met a stranger, and they never saw color or race. They were the standard I judged every man by. :-) Karen

Thank you Karen. My folks believed themselves to be devout Christian but living in Mississippi all their lives, I can't say they didn't see color in spite of saying they weren't predjuiced. When all around you, it is hard to be different.

I always found that when people stated without asking, they were not prejudiced, you could be certain they were.

This work is a shining example of God's wisdom becoming manifest through your soul. His wisdom speaks to those without faith. He is patient and waits to provide His wisdom and faith through grace... through you. What a blessing.

This was a very well-written poem that speaks of a reality not often spoken of... It is true, when we are young, we tend to go with whatever our parents believe in, but when we grow older and start asking questions, reasoning for ourselves, and coming to our own conclusions, that's when we start developing our own faith. And if we are sincere, God in His mercy gives us just enough, just what we need, to be able to believe and have that faith.

Your poem is marvelous -- perfect meter, lovely abcb rhyme scheme but best of all, it is a topic that can't be beat, in my opinion, and I love how personal you've made it -- wonderful! Good luck in the contest!

Thank you, for reviewing my poem on faith. I'm glad you agree that faith should be your own personal faith and not something someone you admire told you is the way to go.

Beth, a great entry for the contest. It is the most honest assessment of how, when we become adults, our life experience makes us develop our thoughts on how we see and practice our faith.
Some may fall away from their childhood faith, while others find greater strength.
Good luck in the contests.
Mary

Thank you Mary. Yes, I know our parents hope we stay with the same belief system that they have but we need to know why we believe what we do is more than because our parents believed that way.
