Well, that's a bummer. Will his momma get to go see him? Will Heddy see her nonnie anywhere else? What is wrong with her brother? I will keep reading. Karen

It's WW2 so mom can't go see Willis. We aren't clear on the details of his injury. Thanks for this. Gretchen

Bad news always are breaking the hearts and hopes of the closet ones. Thank you for sharing and good luck with your writings. And the next chapters...

Everyone's been writing so well this week that I no longer have any sixes left. I'll promote this, though, because it's just fabulous. I can't tell you this enough, Gretchen, and I so hope you are taking it to heart, but you are a REALLY, really excellent writer/storyteller. I've always loved your work, but it's just getting better and better and better.

Thank you. I'm trying to equate my stories to styles of art. Saltwater Ghosts is like watercolor. I want it to flow together, the humans and the spirit world.
Miranda is like graphic novel art. Coffee With Iris was like a small oil painting. I used to think my art and my writing were separate creative venues. You can probably relate your own writing to musical genres. Now I don't feel like it's one or the other. Thank you for the bumps. Very appreciated. Your reviews mean a lot. Gretchen

I LOVE this analogy!! It's artsy-brilliant!! You're such a creative soul, Gretchen, on SO very many levels. I find you absolutely fascinating, because you're also SOOO totally down-to-earth and approachable. There's nothing pretentious or "out there" about you. You're such a big part of why I enjoy this site. xo

The cycles of life, good to bad, and bad to worse it seems like most of the time for all of us. But luckily, if we live through the downside it usually gets better again. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you so much. I'm remembering my own childhood. Trying to wrap my head around the Vietnam War though. Living through War will change people. Gretchen

Nonni is a big help by helping Heddy be a good girl. What a fun conscience. But it apparently isn't good new that her mother receives about her brother.

I don't think Willis is critical but he wasn't able to write the letter himself. Thank you fir this. Gretchen

An engaging and thrilling chapter for the Saltwater Ghosts book. I wonder what happened to their son. I'm worried it won't be good.

I love the dialog between Nonni and Heddy, and with her daddy. It's sweet.

I look forward to reading your next chapter.

Well done!

Gypsy

I have come to this novel a little late, but that doesn't seem to matter. The descriptions are particularly rich, and Heddy's character is well-fleshed out. A very enjoyable read. kay

Letters that come when a loved one is serving in war often contain bad news. But at least it seems he is alive. This sounds like a caring family. The grandmother who visits seem able to do things in physical way but only to Heddy.

Heddy is open to her grandmother's spirit. Or maybe it's her conscience personified. Thank you so much. Gretchen
