Jessica,

Congrats on your 1st place win in the Ode Contest. What a brilliant ode to your child's second grade teacher. Each stanza is brilliantly written and the rhyming is spot on. Every line describes the invaluable gift of a child's teacher and is a tribute to you as you have captured in this well crafted poem an expression of your talent and creativity.

All the best,

Eugene

Congratulations on first place! This is an ode near and dear to my heart, for while my son is 44 now...

In Kindergarten, born deaf in his left ear, with flaccid Cerebral Palsy that required leg braces and mobility assistance...and a learning disability...

There was a real tendency to "sideline" my boy, of the 145 IQ.

And there was Mr. Miller!

Michael arrived with trepidation and so wounded by "labels" prejudging "reports" had affixed...

Mr. Miller worked beside him, fought for him, and blocked all attempts to isolate him.

I watched my boy blossom through the year...

And every year thereafter Mr. Miller saw to it that his teachers saw his abilities!

I'm thrilled a teacher did this for your daughter!

Oh, Karenina, thank you so much for your kind words and for sharing your experience. I know this "sideline" all too well?

Your (grown) boy sounds like an incredible human- and he was undoubtedly raised by one!

Hello Author,
my oldest daughter was a teacher for twenty years, and I watched as she worked with so many children who came from dysfunctional families and touched them deeply. She was greatly loved, not only for her care for her students, but because she refused to allow them to fail. I loved this ode. Good luck in the contest.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

This poem is about a teacher who greets her students each morning with a smile. She admires their work and gives them lots of love and admiration. Helps them when they are in need.

A wonderful poem. An easy read with a very good pace and smooth flow.
In today's world this work about the hero who walk the halls is so true.
A great job!!

When this vote comes up I'm voting for you if I can. As a parent of four, the right teacher makes difference!!

No SPAG critique to offer. I like the image you chose.

Thank you for sharing!! Good luck!!

Fabulous ode of the school teacher. Miss Clark comes to mind, my favorite teacher in elementary school. A beloved woman and quick to kneel. Sending along my very best today as always and best wishes for the upcoming contest.

As a teacher myself (my pupils are older), I perfectly understand what you write and I'm very grateful for your words. If only all the parents could share the same opinions and be thankful to their children's teachers. Nowadays, pupils are more and more disrespectful, and their parents agree with their behavior most of the time...
But back to your poem. I love it! I love its rhythm and all its rhymes, and your imagery is very realistic.
Thank you very much for sharing it and good luck for the contest.

Thank you so much, Sarita! It's an awful thing for teachers like yourself to be underappreciated. Thank you for all you do!
