The poppy fields, a stoic yet beautiful reminder of the innocent blood spilled in war. I have a painting I did on three poppies. Two standing tall and proud and one broken by the wind. This was beautiful. Gretchen

This was definitely a death poem, Gypsy. Even your words carried a sadness to it. Your pictures (dual) such a sad feeling to this. It was well done but I didn't enjoy it. Blessed Be n Hugs!!!

While living in Germany I remember the many fields of poppies growing. I'm not sure it they were planted or wild. Thank you for sharing this beautiful tribute to fallen soldiers.

Thank you very much, Barbara. I appreciate your kind review. When I was growing up in Spain, I saw many wild red poppies. They are everywhere.Have a wonderful day.

I enjoyed this haiku and the meaningful content that you used. The dramatic use of the red and black definitely is a salute to the poppies... In Flanders Fields...a wonderful choice. Excellent writing, Gypsy.

Great use of alliteration and allusion to the famous poem by McCrae "On Flanders Fields." It is so tragic that wars continue and so many young people have died for senseless reasons.

I think that poem is so famous - probably why we wear poppies on Veterans' or Remembrance Day.

This reminds me of Memorial Day. Poppies are special at this time of year. The image displays a field of gorgeous poppies, with there crimson-red color.

From behind the soldier's sacrifice of their lives, comes something beautiful, which is the recognition of their tedious fight for our nation. In this case, it is poppies. I am not so sure why the word "withering" was used, maybe it was used to symbolize the loss of soldier's lives? Anyways, the writing was solid, and I think it's good that it was open for a little interpretation.

Welcome to fanstory, we are a friendly community, in the most part, and we can improve our writing through peer reviews and feedback. Let me know if I can help.

The withering poppies field is a juxtaposition to the dead soldiers reflecting in nature. We are all interconnected, even flowers.

Thank you very much for your excellent review and kind words.
