He Debbie, very nice tribute to a singer/songwriter that must have a soft spot in your love of music. His songs are easily identifiable and always have had a message of some sorts that was usually uplifting. BTW, you have a nice smile. (a bit British I would say)

Bravo. I never met him, never saw him in concert, and yet his music touched me deeply. Each direction he turned, he found lyrics and his unique style to convey precisely what I was feeling. Or had felt. Or would feel along the path of life. When I die, I want the attendees of my memorial service to sing a rousing round of "Sweet Caroline" ~~ complete with the rousing, echoing whoa, whoa, whoa" A la Boston Red Sox! It's in my will!

You're amazing, my friend.

Karenina

Thank you so much, Karenina, for this wonderful review...again! You hit the nail on the head with his lyrics. He struggled a lot, apparently, between his public and private image and I particularly like the words in I am...I said when he describes feeling lost between two shores, not fitting in LA and not able to return to NYC. And that mention of the empty chair as though he's talking to his psychiatrist. It's so sad. And, as for Sweet Caroline, what a fab choice you've made. It's sung here as well at football matches and someone was saying that they didn't understand why. But, as you say, it's those rousing three beats which are so celebratory. Please don't think of going anywhere though. Karenina, even if it will be the best memorial bash ever:)) Thanks again Debbie

Here's a true story of no consequence: when I was little my parents took us on a beach vacation about six hours from home. At the start of the trip they inserted as Neil Diamond cassette, which got stuck in the tape deck. We listened to nothing but Neil Diamond the whole six hours there, and six hours back a few days later.

To this day I hate Neil Diamond.

But my personal antipathy aside, you have presented his life-in-verse well, and I learned some new facts about him along the way (still can't bear to listen to his music though).

Oh Goodness, Ben, that must have been an effort even going near his name, let alone reading it! Thank you for your time and thoughts though, much appreciated. Take care Debbie

-Nice photo and presentation, Debbie.
-Neil Diamond is my favorite performer, and
I got to see him in Philadelphia twice.
-"Solitary Man" has been a favorite of mine, as well.
-Thanks for all of the notes and sharing the poem.
-I didn't know that he and Barbra Streisand went to the same school.
-It's hard to comment on one or two things because you
captured parts of his life and his career so well, and his songs
capture so many emotions, that are always hard to describe.
-I think his music speaks for itself because he wrote what he felt.
-On a side note, I am curious who is your favorite singer.

Thank you so much, Pam, for this wonderful review and all your very thoughtful comments which I greatly value! I've never seen him perform so it's always interesting to hear about your own experience. My favourite singer would have to be James Taylor, I think. Thanks again and Merry Christmas! Debbie

Hello Debbie,
I've seen your name mentioned before on Fan Story, but I never read any of your work until now. After reading Rachelle Allen's interview, I figured I was missing out on something good. Having read this tribute to Neil Diamond, I see that my observation was correct. I loved what you did here gal. I've always liked Neil Diamond and just realized tonight that I've missed a number of his songs. Thanks so much for sharing this gal. Well done.
Have a blessed evening.
Tom

Thanks a lot for introducing to us many of his songs and working them into each stanza of this poem. I didn't know that Neil Diamond is Jewish. Bob Dylan is also Jewish. They are talented people.

Excellent.

Another excellent poem which celebrates the life and achievements of Neil Diamond. So many wonderful songs. He dared to dream and to work towards making those dreams materialise. So many went through times of pain and despair- all part of the process, I guess. Well done.

Thank you so much, Wendy, for this kind review and thoughts, greatly appreciated! Did I read that the rains have come to Australia though I don't know if that means your part of the world? I really hope so. Take care Debbie

Thanks Debbie. I believe Adelaide has had some rain, but not where I live (2000 km away from Adelaide). Still hot and humid here.

Oh I'm sorry. I'm just so ignorant when it comes to the size of Oz:(
reply by Wendy G on 18-Dec-2023
No problem. We have relatives who visited from Scotland and they just couldn't believe its size, at least as big as all of Europe, maybe more. Lol.

This is such a sweet tribute. He is one of the artists of my generation, so I am familiar with all of these songs, and I could not get enough of The Jazz Singer. In that he was everything Jewish to me, when I finally saw him in concert (sometime in the mid-80's), I was particularly tickled when he and the audience spontaneously sang a Christmas Carol, after which he declared, "I've never had that happen before."

Thank you so much, Nicki, for this kind review! It's always interesting hearing about his performances and Jazz Singer seems to have been a well-enjoyed film although I read that it was the soundtracks that carried it and the film was a bit of a flop with the critics. Apparently, it mirrored some of his own struggle between the public and private image? Thanks again and Merry Christmas! Debbie
