Whatever this font is, it is terrible! It looks like a lot of your words are badly misspelled, but I have read something by you before and don't remember spelling being a problem. I am not sure I got the point of your story because I really couldn't read all of it.

You're the only one who has reported this. What device are you using?
reply by Carol Hillebrenner on 17-Dec-2023
I use an HP and have had no problem reading other fonts except there is one that is so fancy with curliques it is hard to read. Have you looked at it as others see it? You know, a few readers don't do much reading, they just want the credit (money).
reply by the author on 18-Dec-2023
Yes, the one with the curliques is called Bonbon and I've never used it because I find it difficult to read. Duly noted about this font. I think it's called Concert One? Something like that? I always double-check my formatting before posting so I'm not sure what happened there.

I'm certainly not one who can cast stones. But lunch sounds good at any time and with just about anyone. LOL. Thanks for sharing another character study and fun read.

Who was sitting at the desk? The tyrant or the young sinner? Whose desk was the tyrant spitting on? Whose office was it? Whose secretary was it?
It is kind of confusing. Karen

Yes - the limitations of flash fiction. I picture the managing director behind his own desk (leaning on it, using his power and authority), screaming at the young guy in front of him and accidentally spitting in rage. The secretary belonged to the managing director - and that's exactly how he would phrase it. :(

Got it now. Thanks. Karen :-)

Fun fact regarding your authors notes: that verse in Mark (or was it John) is widely considered to not be in the original manuscripts of the Bible, however, it so closely resembles what Christ has said to take the log out of our own eye before the speck in our brothers that I believe that is why it is left there.

Anyway, this is quite humorous and so true. I have also found we tend to be more hyper critical of traits in others that we have in ourselves because subconsciously we know that it is in us and while we cannot rid our selves of it, we attempt to rid it in others instead.

A very good final twist in your 80 word flash fiction story. The do as I say not as I do is very well told in this office liason. I enjoyed this one, and good luck in the contest, Navada.
cheers,
valda

Hello Navada,
perhaps for this very reason Jesus said not to judge others. We all have issues to deal with, and few if any can claim innocence. A little grace goes a long ways in situations like the above. It's easy to spot bad behavior in others because we are usually too familiar with it in ourselves. Well done gal.
Blessings,
Tom

You're so right, Tom! None of these characters is very prepossessing but the context made for an interesting reflection on people's choices and behaviour, in the workplace and in life.

Pretty good fiction story I like your wording used in your writing. I liked the part around the end of the story.

Sighs..... Here we go with character limitation again.

Character limitation? As in restricted by word length?
reply by Tetamarina66 on 15-Dec-2023
    Yeah
reply by the author on 15-Dec-2023
Yes, it can be frustrating. If I'm honest, though, each of these characters feels a little unlikeable to me. The only one I'd care to learn more about is the young guy who (hopefully) just made a naive mistake. The other two may be beyond redemption! :)

You are so spot-on with this one! Whenever I hear politicians or religious people pontificating, they move to the top of my list of People Who Are Guilty of This Themselves. We had a Congressman awhile back --whose last name, aptly, was "Wiener"-- who was always leading the charge against sexual harassment in the workplace and big penalties for sex offenders. Guess who got caught texting pictures of his "wiener" to underage girls?

Very vivid read. I'm guessing it's a strong contender in the contest. Good luck. xo

Thank you so much! Yes, even here in Australia, Mr Wiener made the news. Of course he did. How can you perform that act at all, let alone when you bear a surname like that? :)
reply by Rachelle Allen on 15-Dec-2023
You're right! You should know to be extra careful. His problem, though, was that he was too COCKY. HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHHAAHAHA!!!

Thank you for laughing at my joke. As a teacher, this does NOT happen often. Usually my comical brilliance elicits groans and eye rolls.

Yep. I share the same syndrome. And yet I bet they giggle about it once they've left the room. :)

This is very true as this kind of hypocrisy happens all the time. It is always a case of do what I say but don't you dare do what I do. I enjoyed your well written piece of flash fiction and the unexpected ending. Good luck.
