I have no desire for one and I only know one person who has had one for about 6 months. I think he is still thrilled with him. I see at least a dozen charging spot in front of Walmarts but I seldom see any of them in use. It certainly want be putting on my gifl and I will ask my friend if he's having second thought yet. I enjoy your addition to You Didn't Ask Series.

Would never own an EV for any reason. Appreciate your comments and the review.

Well done.
I like the idea of getting off fossil fuels, but I don't think what will end up replacing them has been invented/developed yet. I wish someone would hurry, though.
Best wishes.

Hi Brett, I'm more than puzzled. Here in Europe we don't seem to have any of your problem. Most people these days have hybrids or fully electrical vehicles. No problem with charging up anywhere. It works smoothly. But the attitude is maybe also a bit more tuned into them?
Well written essay. Ulla:)))

Not that way on this side of the pond. Would never own an EV. Here is probably one of the biggest reasons I would not. Say someone you cared about is on death's door and 500 miles away. Your EV on full charge can only go 350 miles without being charged. Well, you are still 150 miles from that person, but you must recharge your EV to finish the trip. While you are forced to do that, the person dies. Oh well. There goes any possible chance of seeing them before they do. Just hope they weren't a child or a spouse. But, you just gotta charge that EV up. Appreciate your comments and the review.

I'm with you. I'm from Australia, and if you live in an inner-city suburb and only drive ten minutes to work and back, then maybe an EV sounds attractive to you. But for the vast majority of us who live hours apart in regional towns and cities, the idea of stopping somewhere to recharge your vehicle during a journey is an absolute no-go. Alternative fuels for cars don't work properly yet - full stop.

But Brett, but Brett, those EVs are saving the world because they don't burn those evil fossil fuels that are causing massive climate change. They just use electricity! Surely you don't want to contribute anymore to destroying the earth, do you? We only have, let's see, I think that well-known climate authority, AOC, said we only had 12 years until total destruction about 3 years ago, so that means we've got 9 years until the point of no return! I suggest you rethink your position on this! - Jim

Not a snowball's chance of that happening. Will that vaunted EV, that is fully charged for X number of miles make a trip to, let's say a person you truly cared about's deathbed should it be further away than the EV goes without being charged? Nope! Must recharge that EV. While doing so, the person dies. So much for saying goodbye to them. Just hope it is not a child or a spouse. Anyway, appreciate the review.

I'm sure it will take years to get all the bugs out, just as with anything new. What I question is: why in the heck don't they test enough to fine tune the products before they start selling them to the public? I know the answer, the American mentality of get the money while you can. Thanks for sharing.

Lots of problems always happen when new technology is involved. EVs as you call them are full of problems and should be avoided at all costs. That's too bad and I hope that if we are patient the future will come where the bugs and kinks will be out of the EVs and we can buy them with confidence for the first time.

Hello Brett,
thanks so much for sharing this post about EV's. I know that you research subjects pretty thoroughly. One thing you didn't mention is that they can catch fire, and when they do, they burn for days according to an article I had seen. If they are parked in the garage, of course the house will catch on fire. Another reason for not owning one is that the batteries are made from rare earth minerals. In order to get enough material to make one battery, a huge amount of earth has to be dug up. Another consideration is that Communist China pretty much has the market for the minerals that are used. If the people who think that they are saving the earth by driving an EV would check further into them, they might have a different train of thought. Instead of trying to get us to replace our cars, those who are concerned about air pollution should look to China and India, the two greatest polluters in the world. It's all a scheme to try to control the masses in my opinion, and make America weaker. Thanks for sharing.
Blessings,
Tom

This is really an interesting article. Our neighbors, whose whole family are in the area, love their fully electric car that they charge at their house. I have a Kia hybrid that charges the electric engine with the rotation of the wheels. I really like the gas saving and have had no problem, but the things you note are true about too many of the other kinds of electrical or semi-hybrid cars. I can't help but wonder how Californians are going to deal with the year when they have to be fully EV.

I have one friend who has an EV. She can't travel in it. Won't venture more than thirty miles from home. But swears she is saving the universe single handedly. Lol. I've never wanted one and can promise I'll never own one. A very humorous yet informative piece. Gretchen
