I love it! Interstellar race relations and a deperately needed breeding program momentarily stymied by the love for a childhood sweetheart. Curses - foiled again! However, I'm sure those crafty Andromedins will find another way to keep themselves going. Thanks so much for the share! :)

This is the first story I've read here, and I must say, it did not disappoint. You had me hooked since the very first line, especially since I experienced a similar thing with a childhood friend when I was a child. I really enjoyed this story. You have the talent, for sure!

This is super creative and was a pleasure to read, Jim!
It makes me wonder how far away this is from a futuristic truth.

A well thought out piece of writing. I wish you much success with the contest. Best, JohnC

Hi Jim. I enjoyed your very well written piece of flash fiction very much. I found the ending quite surprising as I thought he had lost the woman he loved. Good luck with this

I wanted this relationship to work out. I live vicariously, romantically, through my characters.

Very imaginative. Nicely written, too.
So the nameless boy was wrong about the Andromedin crablike monstrous space beings? Either they weren't crab-like, or weren't creatures?
smiley face here
Best wishes.

Lately, I have written some nameless or first person stories, as it seemed the best way to tell those stories. Thanks again!

Jim, this is an excellent story wrought from your imagination. I liked the twist of giving the Andromedins some personality by being sentimental.

I have one suggestion. In the 7th paragraph, instead of using "country," consider using "planet." I think it may fit the story better, but your call. Well done. Terry.

This quickly became a cautionary tale. It was fun toread of their different ages of proposal. A summary of it all: ""But you never showed an interest in me before!"

"Don't you remember my proposal?" I asked.

"That was when we were kids!" she returned.

"I don't have much time now!" I blurted, "I love you! Come with me!" A fun ending.

Thank you! With my wife and most family gone, I seem to live romantically through the actions of my characters.

If only I had had an easy time finding my mate as he did! Had I known my late wife earlier, I'd have fought space creatures for her!

Odd little story. I would like to look inside your brain.
I always imagine mine with hundreds of filing cabinets, and vast computers. It looks like an old newspaper office. Good work. Karen

That's a very old joke. Mine was MRI'd and they said it was incredibly busy. :-)

Vecchio means "old' in Italian, so anything I say comes from an "old mind".

Must be why you write such good nostalgic stories. I was told I have an old soul all my life,. Well, now my face matches! hahahaha Karen

I have had two movie courses in college and studied writing for the visual media in grad school. I LOVE movies, and when I found out I can't be a Christian and work for Hollywood, I try for my stories to be like "mini-movies", many with their own musical themes.

It would be hard to be in the movies or wall street with all the influences. Karen

Yes. One of my heroes is Roy Rogers. I did a FS piece on him a while back. When he and Dale Evans had a Down Syndrome baby, they brought her right in the open with them. Parents who formerly were ashamed took their children out of attics and cellars and also brought them into the open. I corresponded with a writer who tried to sell a screenplay based on their lives. No studio would touch it unless he took out references to their belief in Christ.

There are many Christian channels now. And I knew that about their baby. My older sister said, why are you surprised? Momma and Daddy never hid you! Or, was that me who said it to her? hahaha

There are some doctrinal issues I disagree with, but Dale Evans wrote a great book, "Angel Unaware" about the child, Robin, and it was on the reading list when I majored in Special Ed in college.
