Wow! It amazes me how you can tell a story with song titles. This is another of my favorite musicians. The skill needed to write as you do is absolutely amazing to me.
There is a new book out you might enjoy--Johnny Cash's son has written a book using the lyrics to songs as a basis to tell his story. I'll look up the name of it later and send it to you.

Thank you so much, Judith, for this wonderful review! I'd love to have the name of that book (how dare he steal my idea:)) Seriously, your kindness is much appreciated. Debbie

Thank you so much for covering James Taylor. I thought I would know more about him. I did know about his time in a mental hospital due to severe depression but I didn't know more than a few of his songs. I always loved "Fire and Rain." Great info in your poem interwoven with his song titles!

Thank you so much, Helen! Your review and thoughts are greatly appreciated. I certainly didn't know of the extent of his mental health issues. But his songs and the poetry within are, among the best, in my book. Take care Debbie.

You did a wonderful job with a perfectly metred and rhymed ballad.

James Taylor was a favourite of mine and a lot of folks around the world agreed.

Integrating the song titles and maintaining the rhythm is no mean feat and you have done it spades.

Very well done, Debbie and a most enjoyable read today. :)

I like the image you chose, Debbie, and the presentation. I read all of your notes, and they were very interesting. I didn't know his troubles were so deep and profound. I can't say I am a big fan, but I like some of his popular tunes.

You did a good job with the poem, song titles, imagery, and rhyme, and created a good word picture of parts of his life. Thanks for sharing it.

You are very welcome, Debbie. Of all of the musicians and singers you write about, who is your favorite. Mine is Neil Diamond. I got to see him twice in concert in Philadelphia. I always liked his song "Solitary Man."

I found this to be a very interesting and informative well written piece of poetry in which you share the biography of James Taylor with us. I have heard of him but knew very little about him. Thanks for sharing this.

Hi Debbie,
The great information you always provide is so wonderful. I bet a lot of the young writers do not even know who he was. I for one loved his music.
Really enjoyed the read,
Lisa

Thank you so much, Lisa! I'm delighted you could relate and enjoyed the verse. You're right, he's not as well-known as I'd hoped which really surprises me. Because here in the UK he's an icon and definitely in my 1970-80 DNA:)) Your thoughts, as ever, greatly appreciated. Take care Debbie x

Excellent portrayal. Good work.
You don't explain the asterisk and parenthesis for 'Walking Man'. Is there a story there?
Thank you for including 'You've Got A Friend'.
Best wishes.

Thank you for being so observant, Wayne! I always like that. It's actually buried under stanza 8-9 and it relates (it's thought) to the strategy he learnt from his therapy to take one step at a time. One interpretation was that it was related to his experience of his father whose job often made him an absent figure from the home. I think I prefer the former given his personality which tended towards getting overloaded/depressed. Thank you, too, for your kind review. Take care Debbie

Well I have to give six stars to another magnum opus. So much work and so seamlessly amalgamating your research into this lovely verse. Sorry I've been slow in reviewing. A bit of FanStory fatigue setting in - you know how it is - but 'You've got a friend'. Good to see you consolidating that tenth place. Hope all's well with you. x

Very informative in both poem and notes. I rarely know the background of a writer so your in-depth analysis of how his life was reflected in his music makes for fascinating reading in a well-structured smooth-flowing poem. Well done, as always.

Thank you so much, Wendy, for your kind review and thoughts here! I'm delighted you enjoyed. His songs are amazing and I'm quite surprised that his popularity didn't reach Oz. Thanks again. Debbie x

Oh yes, we do know and love many of his songs, but I didn't know anything about his life. Other Aussies of course may be more up with that if they are more into the music scene.

I must admit, I didn't know about his mental health issues or the extent. But perhaps I should have listened more to the lyrics...
