If two fighting countries can put down their weapons and come together in recognition of Christmas, it makes you wonder why such a truce cannot be extended for a longer period of time...like forever? Thank you for this inspiring Christmas story. Best wishes in the contest.

Ah, that was 1917 with primitive weapons. Today they use nukes and don't give a damn. Second holocaust methinks. K xx

This is excellent work for the challenge. Your presentation is very good. You use expressive words and colorful imagery that will draw in readers. I enjoyed reviewing this. I had "heard of this" but I didn't know these details. Very well written! My husband and I have the words. "Love Conquers All!" engraved inside both of our wedding bands.

Best wishes,

Alex

The story of that Christmas in the snow is one of the few happy war stories that does show barriers can be pushed away even if it is only for a day. Icely told K, and good luck in the contest. Cheers

This is a beautiful story did you have written. It's a historical story as well and I had heard something about this in my youth in history. I wish you the very best with all of your writing. God bless and have a good day. Patricia.

You have written an excellent account of this true Christmas wartime story, K.

One is prompted to ask, Why do intelligent humans want to fight against each other? Basically, I think the motivation is greed, envy, and the desire to have power over others. So sad.

The day is just beginning here in the USA...hope you are winding down so far away in your beautiful homeland and will have a restful night.
Smiles and hugs, Lily

Good morning my friend. Yes, it is greed that drives the people who don't know the Lord. The ones who say they are Christians are like the Pharisees praying in the streets, showing off. Jesus said, "When you pray, pray in secret so your Father in heaven can reward you in secret." Have a nice day. Love, K xx

I've never understood ceasefires . . . if you can stop fighting for hours, and even shake hands as the two in your picture are doing, then you can cease waging wars.

When I was a child, my father told me, "People don't start wars, governments do and their people have to do the fighting and dying." That is why electing a good government is so important, I suppose.

This is an interesting and poignant write, Aussie. A very good entry for this contest. Good luck.

Guns give men power over the innocent. And yes, of course, it is the Government. The rabble in the streets end up starving. I weep for the newborn babies in Gaza. Thank you for reading friend. K xx

Yes, apparently both sides sang carols. But the next day they were ordered to resume fighting. So sad, pointless and meaningless. Wendy
Edit: After "lack of food" you need a full stop and a capital letter for the start of the next sentence.

Men were different in those days. Fighting nowadays is by massive weapons. No more trenches. Thanks for reading my friend. K xx

Thank you for sharing this. I remember hearing about this wonderful event in the middle of the horrors of war. But it's always such an important historical event. Best wishes in the contest!

Good luck wishes regarding the contest entry, Aussie / Kay. Wow! What a story! This was great, it showed that enemies could make peace during a war. The picture was of friends shaking hands with friends. Blessings n Hugs!!!

'MMM' means an abbreviation, it stands for what would Jesus do!

I'm still learning the American language! You spell differently to us. I use Grammarly to correct my work. Our English is a derivative of French e.g. Savior is spelled Saviour. Also, you confused us with the date back the front e.g. 11/17/2023 we follow 17/11/2023! Just to confuse further, our indigenous have 10,000 dialects!
I do on occasion spell the American way, only because mainly Americans/Canadians read me. K xx

When I immigrated to the USA, had so much to learn I basically had to relearn the English language all over. The dates got to me, lol. Wow, that many dialects, I am not sure how many of the tribal contacts there are.
reply by the author on 18-Nov-2023
Why did you immigrate to the USA? (With respect) the English language should not be bastardized. Originally from France. Many of our words have 'ou' and America does not. The date change is ridiculous. Off my soapbox now. :-) XX

In 1996, it is what it is?
reply by the author on 19-Nov-2023
Er...you said, "In 1996, it is what it is?"
Is this when you moved to America?
reply by aryr on 19-Nov-2023
Yes, it was when I moved to America.
