Estory, it's a beautifully written poem and describes the general decay of a beautiful place which once was an important port. But its decay also gives it a gentleness which somehow underscore its beauty and importance for all future generations. I have known Venice since I was 3 years of age. I know everything is done to save it from drowning.
I loved your poem which is rather sad in its tone, but beautifully written. I do hope your prophecy will not come to be. The world is bad enough as it is. A real joy to read. Ulla:)))

Thanks again for the six star review, and all your continued support. I wish I could have seen Venice, but I watched a documentary about it and that served some of the inspiration for this piece. I don't believe we will be able to save it, in the end, or any of the other threatened places. The world is changing as it has always changed. estory

Thank you for sharing this with us. I had no problems reading this post. The font worked well. I enjoyed reading. The flow was excellent. Yes, our culture is in decline. I'm not sure how to fix it or if it can be fixed.

Thanks for the excellent review and I am glad the new bolder font seems to have resolved some complaints about my posts being hard to read. I will use it in the future. estory

This is a very interesting, well written piece of poetry in which the poet describes the loss of so many well known features of Venice. Excellent imagery throughout.

This is a very well written form about this event that's going on right now that is rather devastating. I have never been to Venice soda bun. I have heard lots of wonderful stories about it. My daughter went to get us a number of years ago when she was in able to do the gondola rides on the waters there. It's a shame that they're Louisiana. Patricia

Thanks for the excellent review and your perspective on the piece. I have never seen Venice either, so that's a shame, although I did travel to Europe once with my dad, so I have this sense of Europe becoming a museum of its own culture. There is a fatalistic, sad feel to it. estory

Rome?

Just kidding. Great tribute to a wonderful place.

This was the sweet spot:

Now those facades crumbling away along the Grande Canal
Seem like decaying ruins of a legendary era,
The fading notes of a violin
In a dilapitated opera house,
A hazy figure walking off down the street
After the last of the carnival masquerade balls.

A painting of Venice hangs in my dining room.
