I know you've already won but had to leave a comment on such a well written, heart-wrenching piece. You've pulled our hands away from our eyes and into the issue, whether we like it or not, by leaving us with vivid impressions of both the individual animals and your personal frustration as a witness (and intervener). I'm sad, mad, frustrated, but grateful you live on that road. Well-deserved win.
Congratulations!

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. It was an easy rant to write because I honestly feel that way about those who abandon or abuse animals. The animals are innocent creatures and don't understand why they are being treated in such a manner.

This touched me. I, too, have rescued animals. One Memorial Day, our doorbell rang. A man stood there, a puppy under each arm. "Mam," he said, "Are these your dogs?" I told him no, but I would take them.

The pups were both female, a small terrier mix. We kept one, and I put a picture of the other on a bulletin board at work. She was adopted by a nurse. My dog, Tiny, died at 17.

Another time, my husband and I had just returned from an evening out. As we stood by the car, I was startled by a cold nose poked into my hand. The nose belonged to a female German shepherd and turned out to be a dog from a house across the street. The house had several children, and the dog looked hungry. She met our car every time we came back from an evening out, and I thought about asking the woman across the street if I could have her, but I didn't. Heidi was the dog's name. Shortly thereafter, she had a litter. Then, she disappeared. They had taken her and the pups to be put down.

The dog I have now is a miniature pinscher, purchased from the local shelter for $50. He was picked up as a stray, and would likely have been put down. No one wanted to adopt him. Maybe they thought he was a Doberman pup, who knows, but he had been in the shelter for about a month.

Taking a pet is a commitment, and they should not be considered disposable.

Thank you, and thanks for the six stars. You're my kind of person. I agree with your last sentence one hundred percent. If a person doesn't want to make a lifetime commitment to an animal, then they shouldn't have them. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and stories with me.

This is an excellent rant. I feel the same way you do. It breaks my heart. I'm glad they are laws and they work to some extent. I think more people care than they did years ago when I was growing up. There were laws then and many people took unwanted kitten and tied them in a bag threw them in lakes. I cried every time I heard about it. No one neutered the animals back then.

Thank you. I, too, remember when animals were not spayed or neutered. I grew up in the fifties and can remember stray dogs often coming to our farm. Sadly, my father would often shoot the dogs is they chased our chickens. It was a different world then.

Totally agree with your opinion about the many sleeze bags that do this sort of thing. Happens in Australia as well. There are a lot of animal shelters which can help but not really enough if you get what I mean.
Well done. I applaud your stand. Take care and have a great day.

Cheers

Well that was a good long rant and perfectly understandable.

Cruelty of any kind is totally reprehensible.

Abandonment of a dog or cat is unnecessary given the abundance of animal shelters that would gladly give them a chance to be adopted.

Good luck in the contest.

Thank you. I could have said a lot more. The more I wrote, the angrier I felt. As I said, I could have filled pages with some of the horrible animal abandonments, and the results that followed.

Hi!
I love the passion you poured into this rant. I felt what you did as I read. I'm so sorry people feel that the solution to their temporary problems is to dump a family member in this way. That poor Mama cat. Were you able to save her babies? I can just see her sitting there in the road hoping for help.

I, too, live in the country and I guess people lie to themselves and figure we are just going to give them good lives. Like you said, all you have to do is getting them fixed up and someone always wants them.

Thanks for sharing your rant,
Hugs,
Rhonda

Thank you, and thanks for understanding. Yes, I saved the babies, and an animal rescue took them to find homes. They didn't want the mother, so I had her until she got cancer and had to be put down. I still have six cats left from those days. The oldest is twenty-two, and the youngest is six. I'm seventy-seven and just hope I live long enough to care for them until they are gone.

Very well written. Your description language paints a great visual of animal abuse and abandonment. It is a tragedy that happens much too often.
As a side note... Sweetie is blessed to have been dropped off at your farm.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us.

Thank you. If I would have used the language I would have liked to use when talking about these individuals, FanStory probably wouldn't have allowed it on their site. Lol.

I'd add no shoes or warm clothes, either! I hate people who do that. When we lived in Spain, many puppies and kittens were lift in boxes next to the rubbish bins. When we found them, we would take them to the animal sanctury, run by English people. I loath the people who abandon their pets, if they don't want them, why don't take them to places the find new homes for thm. This was an excellent rant. Well done and good luck! :)) Sandra xx

Thank you. This is a world-wide problem with no end in sight. It is almost impossible to catch these people in the act. I know, because I have tried. Animals woud be better off dead than abandoned to die a slow death.

This rant, Animal Abandonment, touches on all the major abuses that have me weepy and handing over my money every weekend when the ASPCA commercials air. Someone who abuses a pet, would do the same to us. If he would kill a pet, he would kill a person, with no remorse for either.

Thank you. I agree that animal abusers are often spouse and child abusers. It takes a mean natured person to do this kind of thing.
