This story was told well. It pulls us along and shows us a sad life, an unlived life . She carries her grief and sorrow as a badge of honor, instead of finding a way to live. Karen

A poignant, five-star narrative that explores the silent suffering hidden behind a stoic exterior. The story is a gripping portrayal of a life marked by pain and resilience, beautifully depicted with vivid imagery. The concluding act of forgiveness is a powerful testament to the strength of the human spirit. I felt a little sad, so you hit the target.

So sad, and unfortunately, could be the story of many people. At least, in her last moments, she remembered being loved. I was a funeral director for years, and dealt with people who regretted not doing more for their loved one.

Kudos to you for being a hospice nurse. It's a difficult but also rewarding profession. You've told the story well and the reader can see the many masks that were worn. Well done and I wish you the best in the contest.

Just a note: I believe you are short of the 200-word requirement. An easy fix. Have a great day!

Such a sad story. You describe how she masked her feelings and fear very well. By encompassing all her disappointments, monotony, and pain when no one cared enough to contact or visit her, the reader can feel real empathy for her, and the sadness she endured.

One thing to consider...after "Grandma of 21," eliminate "grandchildren", it's redundant.

On a separate note, Thank You for doing what you do. I've had family members require Hospice, and what you do makes it much easier for the families, as well as, the patient to make it through that difficult time.

Aww, a sad and moving tale. Beautifully written and an excellent entry for the 'Mask' prompt contest. Well done and good luck. You have conveyed the character here with real assurance and skill.

Oh goodness this painted a sad disturbing picture of getting old.

I had six kids so hopefully one of them keeps in contact with pops when he is old enough to fart dust.

Thanks for sharing!
