Oh how well you described the teasing of the muse. Waking up from a dream I want to remember. Thinking a sound bite in a book is amazing. My poor husband. "Oh listen to this..." and I read some wonderful paragraph of the book I am reading. Esther

Hi Esther! I see you have gone back in the archives of time and dug out one that definitely described me at a moment in time. Thank you so much for the kind review and the stars.

I felt like you enter my home and saw one of my normal mornings -though I wish it were not so. I'm ages behind such writing; yet I persevere. Beautiful, simply beautiful.

Thank you for your comments and thoughts. My usual genre is mystery and detectives, but for some odd reason I thought I'd try to add humor to the mix. I'm not sure if I will be any good at it, but I most certainly appreciate the support.

Wow, this is just the best description of writer's block! It works for insomnia too (lol) (says the writer up after four hours of sleep and considers herself lucky she got that...)
(I am checking to see when the voting booth opens...)

Thank you, Dawn. This was written quite some time ago when I was beginning to believe I'd never write again. Funny that you chose this particular story to read... I was still on the computer at 3 this morning unable to sleep. Yet, here I am up again at 6:30 wondering what to write.

You did not mention the masks we wear during the day anywhere in the story. You did not mention anywhere the many sides to us, ot the many parts we play. Karen

I like this! It does not mention masks, but it perfectly captures a relatable scenario. I have had many similar nights. This evocative piece paints a vivid picture of a writer's midnight struggle. The atmospheric description sets the stage for creative frustration and the elusive nature of inspiration. The constant battle with Writer's Block is relatable, and the resolve to keep going is a powerful message. Well-crafted and engaging.

Hello, Carol!
Goodness!
You have described me very well - especially when I cannot sleep or write or create or all of the above! Usually, "writer's block" doesn't last too long; I help tease it out of its lethargy by gardening or going for long drives.
My favorite passage:
My hair resembles Einstein's. My eyes imitate Joker's blackened ones. Rumpled blankets twist and tangle my body. The neon numbers on my bedside clock glare at me.
Thank you for sharing!
Best Wishes!

Good for you. Don't give up. Don't let a failing memory trip you up in your quest to write again. There are things you can do to overcome that.
I occasionally have the same problem with losing an idea, but I've found it helpful to have a pad and pen by my bedside to write down an idea I don't want to forget. There are also recording apps for your phone that you could use to speak an idea into your phone before you forget it.
Just don't let a poor short term memory defeat you!

Oh, we've been there all right! These days I carry a notepad and pencil/s with me everywhere in order to avoid the memory eroding walk to the laptop - just scribble it down and hope it's legible next time I look!
Also I try to make sure I am brain dead (as near as) when I get into bed; now I'm writing again I have started getting up so early that I wonder if I might have regressed 40 years, when it seemed so much easier to make an early start - which means that by midnight the neurons have given up completely.
Maybe the lure of a good book at night would work - taking you in a new direction and letting your 'book' just settle down in its own private folder, to be clicked on again when appropriate. If it works, you can be in charge again! And then there's this thing called life . . .

This resonates with me. The need for perfection keeps me from putting letters on the page. I am going to overcome it today. It is so lovely to see you back. I would like your feedback on the book I am writing. Three chapters are written. Haqve a blessed day.

No, defeat is not an option, Carol, you will rise again, and again, and again. You are not one for giving in. With so much churning through your tired mind, you will managed to catch the words soon, they will not defeat you. It's so nice to see you on here again, my dear friend. I've just come home from my holiday, so I've a lot of catching up to do. But when I saw your name, I had to read it first. Love you lots, dear friend. And good luck in the contest. :)) Sandra xx
