Wonderful! I'm a fan of Joni and listened to her a lot as a teen. Thanks for sharing the historical and song references in the poem and the notes. Each stanza is well-voiced and flows nicely. I like your apt verb choices, like CHIME in this line:

This theme would chime in many ways -

Favorite stanza:

And Woodstock too she blithely praised
a time to love, her plea -
to leave the smog, be stunned, amazed
and let one's soul fly free.

Nice internal rhyme here:

No clouds would shade her proud ascent,

Great closing note of home.
What a great art choice too!

Enjoyed!

Warmly,
rd

Wonderful poem about the legendary Joni Mitchell. She burned the candle from both ends and died too young... what a tragedy. I like how you incorporated some of her songs.

Thank you for your review! But, no, she is still alive and kicking (well almost!) She did have a brain aneurysm about 8 years ago but has made a reasonable recovery and even still performs. Debbie

She was so amazingly talented this lady. I like the remake version of yellow taxi that was done by Counting Crows. It's quite good.
Having said that, what a wonderful job you did with this! I see you put a lot of effort into it! You're a dedicated fan! I'm most unique voice, it reminded me of fairies. I'm not sure why but it does interesting. If I had more sex as I could be one for this cause. This is so well done I appreciate all of your notes that you put into it too. factual and excellently done.
If I had more sixes you would certainly get them! Great job and good luck!

When I was growing up Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez, Emmy Lou Harris, and Bonnie Raitt were the biggies in folk. I love most music. I was in choirs so music was always a part of my life. This was a very nice tribute about a pivotal woman in music. Kudos.

Excellent poem about one of my favourite musicians. She made a strong impression, and I still recall her singing California accompanying an impressive vocal range with a dulcimer. Of course the dulcimer became a popular instrument for some time after Joni.

You have deftly incorporated many of her notable songs in a fine tribute to an incredible artist.

Is that a self-portrait of hers? Thank you for sharing a delightful work. :)

There is nothing that could be added or changed to make this any more exceptional. It is creative, original, and very well researched; a very fitting tribute to a legendary artist.

It requires great talent to make all the song titles and rhymes work so flawlessly and effortlessly. Kudos. Well done, Debbie. I love it! - Jamison

Especially perfect word choices: "an age less bound, they'd see", "a sadness darkly raw", "would shun prosaic days"

Check this: "Then off to USA she'd part" (extra space after off)

Thank you for sharing this talented artist's life. I enjoyed her earlier works but when she got into complex jazz, I didn't really understand the music. But I did love her poetry. I'm sorry to read that her reconciliation with her daughter didn't last. She must be a very complex individual but so very gifted!

Thank you so much, Helen for this lovely review and thoughts, greatly appreciated! Yes, I'm afraid her relationship with her daughter is a bit of a black mark against her for me too but I know I shouldn't judge. Take care, Debbie

Such a beautiful poem, Debbie, and so much hard work was required to put this piece together, which is why I'm definitely forking over my six stars to you today. Joni has contributed such a treasure box of lyrics and melodies to the world, and I thank you for this gorgeous tribute. Well done.

I've been waiting for this one to come around, having seen it in the voting booths - and now it has arrived - drat it! - I'm completely out of sixes!
4/3 abab and totally faultless, as usual. This is a singer I followed most of my (and her) life - which puts me right there in Woodstock (if only) and Haight-Ashbury (ditto) and corresponds with the rise of folk music in the UK - and I was plumb in the middle of that, with my band and as a soloist.

So my connections with Joni, emotionally and artistically, are very strong.
I think I have sung all of these in some form or other.

But it isn't just the wonderful poem which you have constructed, it's the ENORMOUS amount of research which has gone into the notes. I can't BEGIN to work out how long it took for that. No, I haven't got a six, and even if I had, it wouldn't do this justice. It needs a 12 at least!
