I'm glad no one was hurt and also that your sister has recovered. You do a great job setting up the scenario and the characters. I love that your glasses were in the backseat and you wondered why everything was so fuzzy. Accidents will do that.

Actually, since no one was seriously hurt, it sounds like the accident was a positive experience, because it made your sister realize she could face the world without a wig. The wig didn't define her. She was the accident victim, not the wigless accident victim.

Thank you for sharing your experience, and incorporating the usual Roxanna sense of humor even in what could have been a very serious piece. Your last line was perfect. Good luck in the contest.

I enjoyed the way you presented this story with succinct descriptive language. I'm amazed your sister never realized her wig blew off. When she talked to people without her wig she found out people were not affected by a woman's bald head. It's great the two of you could laugh about that day and I'm glad she recovered. Best wishes in the contest.

This a great example of a flash story.

You start with the accident, the middle reveals the result and you write a humorous ending... well done!

I love that you laughed about it, you sound very close.

I don't think it's weird at all. You're sisters and (thankfully) you've gotten past it and now can have a serious laugh with it.

I'm glad you both ok and your sister fully recovered from the big "C".

Good luck in the contest!
John

It genuinely sounds so unfortunate, I feel for your dear sister Rox, and the glasses, were they dislodged through the accident, I'm guessing they were, beautifully written my friend, good luck, what was the outcome? Good luck, blessings Roy
Typo : that (where) we were hit.

Yes my glasses flew off, it is weird how you don't even feel it. Connie, my sis, found it all very funny and we laugh to this day. It happened about 18yrs ago. Thanks so much Roy.

Simultaneously sad and happy in one go. Truth is so often stranger than fiction. I think it is 'shining', not 'shinning', which is what one does up a tree. Good luck in the contest.

Thank you for the help. It was mostly funny to us anyway. It happened about 18yrs ago and we still laugh about it today. The story has been told many times and I even wrote a poem about it.

This story, The Accident, is a slice of life that will remain in memory forever. That kind of moment, a bash in a time of turmoil. provides a whimsical relief from the otherwise foggy days of battle. Cool story.

Hello Roxanna. My name is Paul and I don't think I reviewed you before. But I wish I had! This true story flash is so well told.

I was very concerned for your sister - both for her health and her embarrassment at losing her wig. My best friend has lupus and has had cancer, when I drove her to her chemo every week. [100% free for many years] So it was an item for much discussion when she was fitted - and hers is permanent - so I was so glad to read that your sister has made a full recovery.

Really good, but cringe-making description of 'her little bald head, shining in the sunlight, wispy hairs blowing in the breeze . . ' But I'm so glad you finished with a little humor - your glasses had also landed in the backseat - but you must have thought at first that the crash had affected your eyesight!

A compelling account. All's well that ends well. Thank you.

Paul

I did think the crash had done something to my eyes. =} My sister had never let me see her without her wig, I told her it was gone but she got out of the car and was talking to everyone. I couldn't believe it. I finally said, you do know you don't have your wig on? She didn't. She had been so rattled by the crash she didn't realize what I had said. I even wrote a poem about it. I write poems about everything. I had a friend who fell and had to have 9 stables in her head and she couldn't wait to tell me so I could write a poem about it. I have weird friends. I guess we are all weird as we thought this incident was hilarious. Even my sister, the story has been told many times.

Try 'staples' - though the alternative is much funnier!
Sounds like I have a fellow comedian in you. That's a pleasant discovery.
