Not a grandchild, just a precious picture I found and couldn't resist.
I love dialogue contests; they're my favorite things to write. Tell me, if you don't mind, where did you find my 2nd place listing. I never saw a listing of contestants.

I answered your neat comments last night, but either I forgot to "send" or my computer has a gremlin. Anyway, many thanks for your kind words. It was fun to write as that little boy in the picture almost wrote it, himself.
Hope you are getting some relaxation after your trip. You didn't say anything about it. How'd it go?
It is still in the hundreds here - miserable. Last night at 8-ish, I was out hand watering the grass and plants, trying to keep things alive. Most yards are burnt to a crisp.
My daughter is here for a couple of days seeing clients and staying with me. I love having her here. At the moment she's out power walking. Don't know how she stands it in this heat.

I honestly don't know how anyone can survive in that heat. I went out with my daughter for an hour or so today to pick some raspberries. The sun was beating down on us, and though I know it couldn't have been much more than the high seventies, it was almost unbearable. I've posted a couple of stories documenting the time down south on FS. I'll probably post at least one more. To be frank, aside from the time that I spent on the farm, the six weeks I was down there in Hoonah were the toughest I can recall. Physically it was terribly demanding, I was staying at my daughter Jen's house which wasn't ideal, especially when her daughter came over with her two kids for a week at a time. Prices for everything were totally out of hand. I paid $3.85 for two bananas. Needless to say, I didn't buy much food while I was there. It would be real easy to just bitch about the whole experience, which I did in the first post, but it all turned out well.

Tom, I was really talking about your time at sea the past few months - how it went, etc.
I wrote two responses to your first email, because I didn't see my answer anywhere, so don't know if you got either of them, but I do thank you for your comments and the 6. and you've already answered that one. :)

This is really cute dialog only story. Take a kid with a question and a mind of his own and you get a dog named Trangle. You can bet he will tell his teacher about it the next day and she will be confused.

This is funny. Lots of luck to you in the contest. This is really great. It's interesting that the boy mentions his teacher is going to bring a triangle and he wonders what that is. Danny sounds like a typical boy. He loses interest in learning about a triangle but wants to make a dog. He does make a dog, and I love that its name is "Tangle." Sounds like the way he might pronounce trangle. He is pretty funny. Great story. judi

Paul, you are a sweetie. It just sounded like a typical fun-loving little boy to me. I haven't been around young kids in many years. But when I found that picture, I could see him saying those things. I am so glad it made you laugh! It still makes me grin when I look at his face.

Not only was it cute, but it brought back memories of Christmas Past when I got my first Tinker Toys.
