Excellent chapter about an important issue. It's hard to get help. I hope things work out.

Good story and characters development. Well done!

LOL! Mary, I don't know whether to believe you are not, but it is very funny and would be the basis for a good TV sitcom. Maybe you should turn it into a script.

I have been successful in finding lawn people by driving around my neighborhood and seeing a service company working. I stopped and talked to them and got them to come by, and they ended up working for me. Good luck. Very fun post. Terry.

Very clever writing. Great work.
Glad you had your husband checked out, medically.
Maybe a riding lawnmower? (smiley face here)
Maybe stop cooking until the lawn is mowed?
Best wishes.

This is funny in that thank-gawd-it's-her-but-it-could-SOOO-easily-have-been-me kind of way. I loved : (Number 2 was the correct term for him.) HAHAHAHA. And what a SHEISTER --putting in the charges but never showing up for the work! (And that is seriously high charge, too, might I add.) I can't help but think you could get a high school neighbor kid for under half that amount...and he'd be grateful enough to show up when he said he would, too, I bet!

I think you're right --that your husband does seem depressed. Remember that Cher film from the 80's? Moonlighting? (or maybe just Moonlight?) Death is a very serious concern for men as they age.

Good luck to you. You definitely made lemonade from your lemons, though, with this very entertaining piece!! xoxo

Thank you for your review. I not only appreciate it, I loved it.
My neighbors are mostly elderly, but maybe when school starts up, I can see what I can do. I have however ordered a lighter lawnmower.

It's amazing how light some of them are these days. My husband just bought one last year and loves it.

This is an interesting story and an amusing one. I have no idea how to motivate someone to mow the grass, especially with such a large yard. It is sad that you only learned later what was bothering him.

This is a very funny story in a way, but is sad that you have to go to those extreme measures to get your husband to do things. It may be that his health is not all that good and he really does not feel like doing it. I was 13 years younger than my husband, and in the last five years of his life he was having severe heart problems and so he could not do things around the house, and I was required to do a lot of the things that we could not afford hire done. Getting a landscaper is out of the question financially, but I may have come up with a solution. I found on line, a lighter mower advertised for seniors. It is being delivered and hopefully, it will help.

A few years badk my father stopped mowing the grass too so my mother started doing it. It was July an nearly a 100 f. She came in and suffered a stroke and a heart attack and she didn't survive. If Harvey is worried about your health, maybe he needs to know it is too much work fo you. At leas, he could do what my husband and I used to. We both worked on the yard. When one of us was getting hot and tierd the other would take oover and back and forth until it was finished.

Thank you Beth for your review and advise. I have arriving today a new much lighter lawnmower. The shiny new toy just might make him mow. We will not even use it until our heat wave is over.

Mary!! This is hilarious! I'm so aching for a six to give. My husband and I read this outloud and just burst out laughing at every turn. A priceless true story and so well penned and illustrated. Your sense of humor carried this post from beginning to end.

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the home and yard improvements.

Thank you Sally for your review. I am glad you and your husband enjoyed my tale of woe. By the way, I am having a lighter lawn mower delivered today. I guess they make one for old folks!

Love this story, so engaging all the way through, although I'm so sorry for your husband's depression and gratified to hear he's now much better. You have the skill to tell a story that I could read forever. You know just how to hold the reader's interest and use humour and your list of tradesmen to vary the tone and keep enjoyment alive. Well done! A thoroughly enjoyable read. There's something about men and mowers - they either love them (preferably riding on them all day long) or avoid them like the plague. So this was all very relatable. Take care Debbie

What a funny, funny piece you've written! "Number 2 was the correct term for him." Love it!

My husband and I are close to 70, and we still do all of our yard work on a very big corner lot. It's a lot for us, and we realize that we'll have to cave and hire someone within the next few years (just like all of our neighbors before us).

It sounds as though Harvey is taking his birthday pretty hard, even though his depression shouldn't fall to you. I'm not sure where you live, but where I am (Florida), there are dozens and dozens of lawn care crews always looking for work. Keep looking - surely someone will come to your aide. Not sure what you do about the vacuuming, lol!

This was a fun romp through your life and lawn - thanks for sharing.

I don't think you can mow the grass by picking up the lawnmower; maybe, "He still did not get behind the lawnmower . . ."

After all, if I can push a full shopping cart around THEN I can push a lawnmower. (Replace "and" with "then")

Thank you for your kind review. I am sorry that you gave it a lower rating for two corrections. I changed "get behind," I think this was more my own vernacular speech. I change it to touch.
I see your point and changed it to "then"

I think I changed it to 5 stars, which was my original intent. Thank you for pointing that out to me.
