Some tender sensory imagery here: "Betty poured a glass and touched it to his dry lips. He drank and drank without taking his eyes off her.
"This tastes so good, my love." Great use of similes and metaphors. This line give an indication where the next subplot will go: ""I'm sure they've already launched a full investigation." This is an intriguing approach:
"Ending the charade abruptly, I said, "Wife? You have no wife!" We'll be back.

Hi Sally,
I was hoping we'd see Patience again. But Hank and Betty Jo didn't see her. She was on a mission, as angels often are, and Hank was healed. Her departure was followed by greatest joy, and lots of kisses. A Christmas wedding is on the horizon. But I wonder who shot Hank? In all probability, they won't catch him if he's a hired assassin. Those guys are pros, and rarely make mistakes.
Pieces of the puzzle are fitting into place. Nice to see that Gaston is awake, and they're finally able to accuse and read him his rights... charged with the murder of Phoebe Mae Thompson, and the abduction, kidnapping, and rape of Candace Van Velzen. Let's hope he blabs other guilty parties.
I still think Fee may escape, and disappear altogether (for the time being). And then, he'll pop back into view years later. He'll be an itch that everyone can't scratch.
Nicely penned, Sally! (as always)
Hugs,
Kimbob

Things seem to be falling into place. I'm glad the angel visited and Hank awakened and now he will soon be married . I think there will soon be verdict in the case against Gaston Paulette. Nice written.

Something tells me Gaston isn't going to go down without a fight. I can't wait to see what he and Fee will get up to. It won't work, but it should be interesting. Glad Hank is okay.

This continues to be a most engaging and exciting tale and I am really enjoying it. I love the mix of detective noir fiction with Christian elements. Most unusual and distinctive.

Glad that justice will finally come for Tommy about his daughter's death. Gaston Paulette may survive, but hopefully he will spend the rest of his days in prison. An excellent chapter with realistic dialogue and a range of very dramatic events. Well done.

it was because of Betty Jo the captain was alive - that's true, not only for the bleeding out but the emotional support for the very sick is immeasurable. Another great chapter Sally. Hopefully Tommy gets some answers from Gaston.
cheers,

This is an important chapter, as both Captain Hank Riley and Gaston Paulette are recovering -- the former eager to marry Betty Jo Jenkins, and the latter to be arrested by Tommy and Willa based on the clear evidence he had a part in Phoebe Mae Thompson's murder.

I like the way Angel Patience appeared, quickly performed her tasks, prayed, and left, "leaving a sweet scent behind" (with nothing overdone).

Hank's attending physician indicated that he was recovering better than expected, and could be well enough to marry Betty Jo around Christmas. I like Betty Jo's response: "Any day, any time, any place, Hank Riley. As long as I'm marrying you."

Different-looking Candace, Simon, and Daniel had arrived and were waiting to see Hank, so Betty jo took Daniel because the hospital rules allowed only two visitors at a time. In the room, Simon tells Hank about his mother's coming funeral, and that his granddad Cole would be arriving from Versailles. He then invites Hank and Betty Jo to attend,

In the last section, Gaston Paulette can't talk away his reality, so Willa tells him his rights as she and Tommy arrest him. He is the final remaining major perpetrator in Phoebe Mae Thompson's murder. The only villain left to be caught is the sniper who shot Hank, and Sheriff Emmanuel Gonzalez is investigating that.

Your Author Notes are helpful in understanding the effect of Hank's wound.

Superb, and aptly illustrated.

This is the first time I read this story.

I like your writing. Each scene is vivid as if you are watching a movie. The conversations are real. I can follow what is going on but a little hard to figure who is who.

You are a good story teller. I like the ending of this chapter that he caught the suspect.

Happy writing.

And one more single man is about to bite the dust, LOL. And Tommy isn't wasting any time once Paulette came out of his coma to arrest him for murder. You covered a lot of ground, from the romantic to law enforcement in this chapter. Good going, Sally!
