Wish it wasn't true - the waiting game.
I liked your poem, especially the first stanza.
For some, the final mile is a bit much to ask for a smile.

Best wishes.

Dear Jaybird, Thank you for this poem, which I greatly enjoyed. Like you, I really love sonnets and have written a story of my cat in sonnet form! This version, using rhyming couplets, is perfect for your series of rhetorical questions. I thought I was getting old at 77, but unless my math has lost its way, you Sir, must be 98 years old. I can't wish you a long life because you're there already - so I wish you the maximum good health for the longest time that the Lord will give you.
Best wishes, Paul

Thank you for still writing. It is inspirational to read that you are writing all the way to the end and you want what is best for all concerned when it comes to what is good versus evil.
Thanks for sharing. You have a long way to go, my friend!

One of my favorite poems penned by your hand, Jay...
Sincere and heartfelt, but also I am certain that your feelings resonate not only with me, but with others as well.
Love the positivity expressed in the final couplet.
Thank you for sharing!

-I'm glad you're still writing, jaybird, and
doing a great job of it, too.
-This is a very good poem with
effective imagery and rhyme.
-It flows smoothly from verse to verse.
-I think most of us try to do our best,
and sometimes we're successful and sometimes we're not.
"life's afterglow" is a very nice, peaceful image.
-A very good closing couplet.
-Have a good evening and upcoming weekend.

Good men shan't have concern for what is ahead IF there is. We can hope and pray and believe but what if it is a made up fantasy like Santa or Peter Pan?

facing the inevitable with a smile is much wiser than facing it with a frown of fear, hatred and anger. It cannot be avoided and holy scripture has promised a resurrection for many. There is no earthly reason to think it does not include you, so be happy not fearful, or resentful.

A wonderful reflection on one of life's big questions- what awaits us when we depart this earthly existence- a poem with a distinctly philosophical touch

As always, wonderful!
Love the rhyming phrases and the parts that talk about 'waiting.' That is a good way to see it. Heaven's gate will see you through. Good job.

Hello Jay,
This is another very well written piece to add to your collection. I have enjoyed reading each one very much.
I have a strong feeling that you will still be writing long after you turn 100. I believe it's God's will for you to keep spreading your faith and knowledge to all your readers.
Take care, Jay....Bill
