Again, you give us the sunny-side-up version of life that each of us has and many of us lose sight of as we complain about this illness or that, a dip in finances, or a surly neighbor. The truth is we all have those frustrations... the precious gold comes when we realize, as you've so aptly stated, that every experience presented to us is also a choice to grow or to simply wallow.

No time for wallowing as I approach seventy in less than two weeks! If a smile, or a kind word, or a quiet "You seem sad today." can help, please Lord, help me to find those moments~

It's almost your birthday ? I wish you a fantastic celebration, and especially much inner joy and peace. I got to that milestone two years ago (still can't believe it!) What is the date? Thank you for your lovel thoughts, and yes, we can encourage each other to be aware of
and appreciate these three golden strands.

I started writing a couple of months before my seventieth, apart from about fifteen or twenty poems in my youth. We are like fine wine or good cheese. The ageing process can be good!

Oh...well with seven days to go, I'll start repeating this...

I missed this one somehow, Wendy. Congratulations on your win. This is a great article. You have really nailed it in the part about old age, but I am not enjoying the experience.

Very nicely done. I can't imagine a better conclusion to the sentence beginning.
I wondered about the white, and red, and yellow gold threads, though.

Thank you Wayne for reviewing. Maybe I wasn?t clear enough. Just that they are all forms of gold,, hence precious and meaningful, and one can get rings with them all intertwined, as are life, learning and loving.

This is an excellent entry for the life contest. You have taken us below the surface to a place of emotional end, spiritual depth that is seldom addressed in this 21st century. Yes, life is precious. Embrace the love from above.

"He has made everything beautiful in its time and has put eternity in the hearts of men..." Ecclesiastes 3:11. And that is why we have an innate desire to learn about and to love all that is around us. Your essay highlights the gift of life perfectly. Precious strands of golden opportunities to embrace and enjoy life. Thank you for this timely reminder -as the world around us seems focused lately on the negative.

Beautiful described. Yes, that first year of life is so amazing as you said, "exponential growth"! And with those early years, our middle years and old age, all these are those strands of our lives that we should deem precious. Best wishes in the contest!

I'm impressed with the amount of information you're sharing. I certainly agree that life is a gift. I'm wondering how you got all the information about the children and their language skills. I do hold a masters in literacy have taught children and teens for over 20 years. your nice poem has definitely earned my curiosity. Best wishes!

I voted for this beautiful gem in the contest. A lovely offering and it had the spiritual component missing from most of the other entries.

Sending you my best today as always, and best wishes for the upcoming vote.

The majority of what you writ is true and yet I am uncomfortable with the beginning of line two only because it continually gives UNTIl death for each of us have a destiny beyond mortality. Prayerfully, it is a good choice.

Thank you Tom. I take your point, but as you will see in the notes I am only writing about THIS life, as including anything further about the next would make the piece too long.
reply by the author on 13-Jun-2023
I have also not mentioned death at all and the notes indicate that learning and living will continue into the next life.
