Thank you for sharing this story. I was directed to it by Pam (respa).

I am attempting to publish my first novel. I have received what I consider outrageous quotes for editing.

This was a very informative read.

Warm regards,

Jacqueline

    yes it can be very expensive and prices just keep going up. But keep looking there are sales and discounts all the time. There are tons of self-publishing sites online. Hope you can find something. And thank you for the review. Super Pig was my favorite thing to write. =}

What a sweet story. I absolutely remember Super Pig from the stories you posted on FanStory. They were very enjoyable, and always taught a good lesson. I'm sorry the stories didn't sell as you'd hoped, but I love the reactions you got. Having a positive impact on a child is one of the most rewarding things there is, and it sounds as though you got that. Money is not the only measure of success and, based on the reactions of those who read them, your books were definitely successful!

As one who has written two books and had them published through self publishing organization. My books have caused me more money than I have made from them. But the monies that I have made from them all go to my church for missionary efforts around the world thus far in with the two books I have had rotates of about $650. I could've use the $650 for things myself but it was a deal that I made with God that I would never try to make money from my own writing since I know that the gift that I had for writing came from him.Patricia

How great that you give the money for missions. That is a blessing in it's self. Thank you so much for the review.

Hi Roxanna,
That's an amazing story and I did read some of your stories here on Fanstory.
It's such a shame to have such talent, find the means to publish, have a willing audience and yet find little monetary gain.
An amazing achievement and congratulations on being able to find the bright side to your experience.
All the best for the future.
Blessings
Shirley

Thank you so much Shriley. It is still fun having books, I still have a few from my last printing and give them out to friends with kids.

You did a great job with your contest entry,
Roxana. I liked the way you interspersed the
production/publishing of your books with the
fun and/or family events that coincided with
them. Your office sounded like a fun place to
work. Your sister was generous to pay for one
of the books.
Thanks for sharing and best wishes in the contest, Jan

I know from making two music albums from my self written songs that it's really hard to profit by it, but at least I can say I've left a legacy, (they both cost $11,000 each, and although I sold quite a few, I never made up the money) I haven't published my poems, although I'll do at least one book, beautifully written Rox, thanks for sharing, I think you're a good writer, blessings Roy

Wow, I guess I got off cheap. $11000, ouch, but if it brings you and other joy it is worth. I was for me. I still very glad I did it. Thank you so much for the great review Roy.

I loved this inspiring and informative account of writing and publishing books. I didn't start writing until 2020 when I joined FanStory and have posted several adult stories. I've often wondered what it was like to self publish. Thank you for this detailed information on necessary steps and costs, and how you felt about the process. Super Pig sounds adorable and I wish you much success with it, and best wishes in the FS contest.

Well I got a review from someone who says they use Amazon publishing and it didn't cost them anything. They take a percentage of the sales and that's it. Why didn't I know about them sooner?! I think I did look into it and maybe it wasn't free back then. How great of them to do it for authors and how great that you have gotten stories published. It such a validating feeling when that happens. Congrats and thank you.

Thank you for sharing your author journey and the joy it has brought you. Unfortunately, it's the marketing that holds up many great books and I bet yours is one of those since you have such support for it. Luckily, you wrote and published for the right reasons--the love of writing and sharing your work.

Thank you so much. Marketing was a whole nother cost. But I have since heard that Amazon will publish your books for free, just a percentage of sales. Why didn't I know this? But it was still very worthwhile.

Aw, Roxanna, that is such a lovely story about how you came to publish your Super Pig stories. They seemed to be liked by everyone, but never made the big sale. It's next impossible to have your work published these days in the old fashioned way.
What a wonderful experience this must have been for you. Good luck in the contest. Ulla:)))

Getting anyone to publish you is very hard. Books just don't sale like they used to. This whole last generation is missing out with their noses always in their phones. But even with no profit, it was really worth it. Thanks so much Ulla.

Loved this last part of this stanza: "But I learned there are other things I liked about it more than the money I didn't make." Nicely done and held my attention throughout the piece and I was captivated wondering what would happen next!

Thanxxxxx for sharing and may God bless you and your family!
