This was a beautiful tribute to your friend, Jim. He sounds like quite an amazing soul who meant so much to his wife. You used so many great examples and metaphors for what he meant to her (perhaps a few too many; I think you could have dispensed with about 5 stanzas in the middle with very little loss of effect.)

Isn't it interesting how often we hear about a spouse passing away so soon after the loss of a long-time spouse? She must have been aware at some level that he was no longer with her and desired to join him in heaven. What a sweet poem this was. Jim

What a devotion of 20 years of love and caring of one's wife. He was truly a remarkable brother-in-law. He retired in a not so young age but sacrificed the rest of his life for his wife. I'm very moved by your poem.

Excellent.

Wonderful story/poem in remembering Owen. I believe that he was meant to be and gave his all to Billie. True love knows no bounds and the marriage vows say "in sickness and in health." The fact that Billie followed Owen home to god says it all. K xx

Hi Jim,
This is the description of what a true lasting love is. Every cliche about love is meaningful here. He is definitely the kind of man any woman would dream of as a husband. You're sister probably died of a broken heart, Sorry for your losses.
Keep writing and stay healthy.
Good luck in the contest.
Have a great rest of the weekend.
Joan

    You are most welcome, Jim,
In this hot weather I take my walks early in the morning when it is only in the 60 or 70s. Do you sell the pots you throw?
    Keep writing and stay healthy.
    Have a great day.

Yours was the first poem I read for this contest. I don't know the others could be any better. Your words engaged me from the start, but the poem just evolved into a cocoon more and more warmth and heartfelt emotion. What you describe is true love, a very rare commodity, and you describe it beautifully. Sorry, I can't find any way I can offer suggestions for improvement.

Best wishes,
RFL

What a loving tribute to love that endures over the years. The beauty of their love is written in a way that shows it endures. My most favorite stanza because it reminds me of my husband and our life together. We believe when we married it was a lifetime commitment to helping each other grow and be there for each other. Thank you for sharing this.

You were the one who understood her.
Who accepted and respected her.
Who challenged and supported her.
Who inspired and encouraged her.

There is only one love that I know of which qualifies to be greater than this, and that of course is the love that our dear Savior had when he died on our behalf. Other than this, I would have to say that the love you wrote so eloquently about, is right up there.

Nomi, you are so very correct. After Owen passed over I found his personal journey and he kept a prayer vigil for friends and family and every day, he had his prayer list of people prayer over. It was truly a wonderful validation of the man whom I had grown to have great fondness and respect.
