After reading this contest entry, I'm curious if owls eat crickets. I just googled it. Yes, they do. I knew they ate small rodents but didn't know they also eat insects. Now I am positive you meant 'night-owl's' as humans who stay up late at night, but my brain took me elsewhere. So Sorry, It's not your fault it's me. Thank you for sharing this entry with us and good luck with the contest.

You're right, they are heard, it's the rubbing together of their legs, and the same as the grasshopper, it's their mating call, "come on over lover, I'm waiting" Beautifully written Michele, blessings Roy

If you live in my hood, you can't forget the tree frogs. They won't let you. What a wonderfully written poem.

Good luck in the contest!
Have a greaday, and God bless.

This is a very short poem, a 5-7-5. It made me just a little bit sleepy, until the last line where it said: a night-owl's alarm
I caught some assonance with darkness/alarm. The animated background is fun. Good luck in that contest!

I love, love the third line, Shelly, a night-owl's alarm! That is so well thought out! I love listening to them when I sit outside to look at the stars. It's very relaxing. I'm also glad they aren't seen, only heard. Well done, my friend, and good luck in the contest! :)) Sandra xx

Nicely done for this entry. You selected an interesting artwork to pair with your verse - it tightens your overall presentation.

Do like your last line.

Good luck in the voting.

P.S. My preference would be to increase your font size to appeal to other FS reviewers.

    Shelley,

My look just now did not detect a change. Try 20 or 22 point font in Editor Mode.

your ?crickets chirp? size may be too big for my suggestion

it's on 28 now - is it better?

    Shelley,

28 is likely too big, but my look at your poem does not yet appear as 28 point type

This started me wondering: is a sound still called chirping when it is made not with the mouth but with the legs? If not, what is the word for it?
Reverberating? Now there's a bunch of syllables for you! Just ignore that; it's a nice little poem. Julie :-)

An excellent entry, Shelley. I like the play on 'seen and not heard'. Your closing line made me smile as I envision an owl waking up to the sound of crickets. Great job, and best wishes in the contest.
