A wonderful poem for Remembrance Day and you have entered very well into the thoughts and heart of a child. This is what many would have experienced. Unfortunately. Well done. Best wishes for your entry.

Unfortunately not all wars are fought for the sake of freedom. I think generally speaking it's been to gain dominion over others, being British born and seeing Europe consumed by a power hungry villain, that would have been scary, fortunately we had good allies. This is beautifully written in heptametric stanzas and aabb rhyming, well done, blessings Roy

I never had the privilege to serve, so all my wishes go out to those who have and my prayers go out to those who perished protecting our freedom and democracy.

Your poem is well penned with meaningful words and phrases.

God bless to all military men, women and families.

Wonderful poem entry for the Memorial Day In Poetry contest.

Great commemoration for or soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice. Your perception words made me cry.

I love the imagery and presentation.

What is not to admire about your poem? I'm happy it is not autobiographical and devastated that it is biographical for far too many...

Memorial Day is not all about picnics and hot dogs and the first trip to the shore. It's about our ability to do all of these things freely--

May we all take the time to remember the many who have given everything for us.

Congratulations on a most meaningful poem!

Karenina

Dear poet, This is an eloquent
and heartfelt poem on our
brave military. To sign their
life on the line takes an
extraordinary amount of
courage. My very best wishes
for the contest. All the best.

First I want to say that I am glad it is not autobiographical. Secondly, it is a beautifully written poem. You honor our active military and veterans with your verse.

A poignant poem for Memorial Day. I'm glad that you did not experience this loss. But an exceptional job of getting inside the head of one who did. Rhyming was unforced and the meter held up. Good work.

I joined in a time of peace and did not stop to consider the possible demands that my service might make on me. I was fortunate to be honorably discharged just before Vietnam exploded. Please believe me when I say, all of us, especially those of us who did not have to serve there, owe a debt of gratitude that will more than likely never be paid in full.
